Tri-State Wrestling Alliance (1989-1992)

Jannetty got his start in the Philadelphia-based Tri-State Wrestling Alliance (TWA), run by radio personality Joel Goodhart, and became an early contributor to the city's hardcore wrestling style. The TWA was unique for its time because they regularly booked big-name talent to work with their homegrown stars. Other notable TWA alumni include The Sandman, Rockin' Rebel, Glen Osbourne, Larry Winters, Ron Shaw, Tony Stetson, Johnny Hotbody, Max Thrasher, and D.C. Drake. During this time, Jannetty attended Northeast High School. He also teamed with Rockin' Rebel to form The Confederacy. They became top contenders to the tag team titles and feuded with teams such as The Dog Pound, The Hitmen, and The Blackharts. It was during a match with the Blackharts that Rockin' Rebel surprisingly and viciously turned on Jannetty ending the Confederacy team

Eastern Championship Wrestling (1992-1993)

Although its shows drew well, the TWA ceased operations suddenly in 1992. The gap was soon filled by Eastern Championship Wrestling, precursor to Extreme Championship Wrestling, helmed by Tod Gordon. On February 25, 1992, Jannetty wrestled in the opening match of the inaugural show for Eastern Championship Wrestling (later renamed Extreme Championship Wrestling), a 20-minute time limit draw with Stevie Richards. While he continued the feuds that began in the TWA, He also during this time began to team with Several Wrestlers including J.T. Smith, Larry Winters, Chris Michaels and feuded with several Tag Teams including The Super Destroyers, The Flames and King Kaluha & Scott Summers
