Purpose

Our purpose is to edit, create, update and improve entries pertaining to notable personalities in the Computer Vision community. In general, we are not focused on technical content, except to the extent that citations or personal references are being added or corrected.

It is our hope that once pages are created for those authors and researchers who should have, but do not currently have, pages, others (including the named individuals, if still alive) will take part in extending those pages.

Once we have made sufficient progress on our authors list, we hope to devote greater time to improving the entries on each list.

Our minimal goal is to have entries with reference to books and appropriate publications (those significant enough to have had a meaningful impact on the Computer Vision community) for each researcher. Thereafter, we hope to proceed to improve those entries which have been created.

Short List

This is a list of book authors on the todo list (based on topic and Amazon reviews. Of course this list is in no sense complete, but is our starting point for this project. We will of course add new names as time progresses. (Also, some names may be eliminated for multiple author books, based on the Wikipedia notability guidelines).

Disambiguation

In preparing for this project, we have noted that enough of the authors of interest have names sufficiently common that disambiguation will often be necessary. In accordance with the Wikipedia guidelines (Wikipedia:Naming conventions (people)) we have opted to add "(scientist)" to the name of any researcher whose name is found to be otherwise in use. (e.g. the Computer Vision researcher "Richard Hartley" is entered under the name Richard Hartley (scientist) to distinguish him from Richard Hartley, the British composer of the same name.

As a matter of policy, we will not engage in the lengthy process of attempting to change the existing article names (e.g. "Richard Hartley" to "Richard Hartley (composer)"). As this is a difficult topic to determine which individual may be a better Primary Reference, we will leave this to a later time, and hopefully constructive collaboration with others knowledgeable about the other entries affected.
