History

SGS is the first British Curriculum School in the port city of Chittagong, Bangladesh, offering both IGCSE (previously O Levels) and Advanced Levels education under Britain’s Edexcel and Cambridge Boards. The school was set up with a view to enhance the qualifications of the students of Bangladesh a step forward by providing British qualifications to enable locals to gain a world class education that is recognized across the globe. Coming to realize the importance of English of the time and today, Sunshine Grammar School was established in 1985, recognizing the needs for English Medium education for all strata of students.

The first batch of Sunshiners appeared for exams in 1987. Sunshine students broke academic records from the very first year of operation with students gaining straight A grades across the boards. The results elevated Sunshine to being the premier School in Chittagong and was a reflection of the school’s enthusiasm and motivation in providing a world class education to the children of Chittagong. Sunshiners have gained the accolade of achieving the best results in the country, and the world, on multiple occasions. The school has received multiple awards for academic excellence. Sunshine was one of the first Schools in Bangladesh to be allocated an ‘examination centre’ status in the country by a British Education Board. Following the success of the British curriculum, the school management was encouraged to start teaching the Bangladeshi National Curriculum in English Language by the residents of Chittagong, which led to the establishment of Chittagong Sunshine College in 1995 and Chittagong Sunshine School in 2005. As of 2012, Sunshine has established itself as one of the top schools in the country teaching a curriculum spanning two British Boards and two National Boards.
