"HC" is a pen name for the anonymous yet prolific author of the novel MFU, and the website Cognitec/3rd Force.

The site began in the mid 1990s as a series of sardonic passages "spoofed" to look like prominent web portals of the early Dot Com boom: "Crapfinder," the "New Times York," "The Wash[1]," "Bogon," "Acid Round The Clock."
