Mark Crockett is an American politician and business consultant from Holladay, Utah. He is a former member of the Salt Lake County Council, the legislative body for Utah's largest population center. He is the republican candidate for Salt Lake County Mayor.[1][2]

Education[edit]

Crockett earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from BYU and a law degree from Stanford University.[3]

Professional Life[edit]

Crockett worked as a corporate attorney with Latham & Watkins before moving back to Utah in 1998, to run a private consulting firm.[4]

Notable projects include consulting at the Colorado Department of Natural Resources, where Mark helped employees and stakeholders develop and recommend a plan to save $24 million a year out of their $170 million budget.[5]

Politics[edit]

Mark Crockett is a conservative politician and member of the Republican party. He served on the Salt Lake County Council from 2005 through 2008.[6]

During the 2012 Salt Lake County Mayoral Republican Primary, Crockett narrowly defeated popular West Valley City Mayor, Mike Winder. The initial vote count on the night of the primary showed Crockett leading Winder by only 239 votes. After a two-week recount period, Crockett was determined the winner by a margin of 1,019 votes.

In the general election, Crockett is running against State Senator, Ben McAdams, the Democratic candidate.

Crockett has come under fire in his election bid for what some consider misleading campaign materials. Crockett has included the logo of prominent companies such as Tansamerica, Bank of America, and the Colorado Department of Natural Resources on campaign materials, implying an endorsement of his candidacy. [7][8] Crockett has also been accused of running afoul campaign finance laws. [9]
