From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I am interested in 20th century and 21st century furniture design and interiors. My aim on Wikipedia is to provide accurate and well-sourced information about practitioners within these fields. I studied art history as an undergraduate, and work as a freelance design journalist.

I am a subscriber and avid reader of contemporary design and architecture publications such as Architectural Digest, Metropolis, and Domus. I only add information to Wikipedia that I have found in books and exhibition catalogs from notable museums (i.e. MoMA, Vitra Design Museum) and major news websites (i.e. New York Times, Financial Times), renowned design magazines (i.e Domus, Abitare, Metropolis). I attended the Art+Feminism's annual worldwide Wikipedia edit-a-thon on Women+Design+Craft at LACMA in 2019, and began editing Wikipedia that same month.

When compared to the Wikipedia articles on contemporary artists, the articles on contemporary designers are really lacking good sourcing and writing. I have noticed that even articles on some of the most prominent designers of our time are flagged as needing additional citation, or containing content that is written like an advertisement. This rarely happens in contemporary art, where I imagine many art galleries and institutions employ staff to properly document their artists careers on Wikipedia. Seemingly the furniture and interiors industries do not afford the same attention to preserving their own legacy on Wikipedia as the art world does, and so this has provided me with a purpose and niche as an editor on Wikipedia. I am not paid to edit, and do this strictly to help raise the caliber of information on furniture and interior designers, so that others can have access to the information that is available in books, magazines, exhibition catalogs and reputable websites.

I have contributed to and edited the following articles:

I edited a number of articles about office chairs, notable office chair designers, and Houston Hip-Hop musicians under the username Aeronchz94, which I created initially to focus on office chairs, until I learned that Wikipedia editors must function under a single user name. I retired the user name Aeronchz94 on September 3, 2021. Under Aeronchrz94 I made edits to the following articles:

I only create new articles in my sandbox, and prefer to have more experienced editors provide feedback and ultimately approve my articles for publication. I aim to create articles on designers who meet the Wikipedia guidelines for notability, and I follow the steps outlined in Help:Your first article as closely as possible, and also study the Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Layout#Notes and references. I have created the following articles:

I realize the name Historyofdesign makes it sounds like I'm an authority when I am really just an enthusiast. The name was the first thing I thought of when I thought about what I wanted to edit. I may change the name to something less pretentious. I enjoy and welcome any feedback that I receive from experienced editors, and hope to become a seasoned Wikipedia editor with time.
