Since the end of the 19. century the Soupturtle was very popular because of the Turtle soup and other dishes from Turtlemeat and it was already endangered species Endangered_species: Turtle_farming, which supported the Soup to become more exclusive. Since "1988" the Soupturtle is protected under the Washington Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora - Since then Turtlesoup is legally not available anymore.
