Christ Church St Ives is a large Anglican church in St Ives on the North Shore of Sydney , Australia. Christ Church St Ives has a strong evangelical tradition based on its commitment to Bible based teaching. Christ Church is part of the Anglican Church of Australia and is in the Northern Region of the Diocese of Sydney.

As of 2006, Christ Church St Ives has four Sunday services. It is also part of the Ministry Training Strategy.

History[edit]

From 1909 to 1919 Christ Church existed as a branch of the Parish of Gordon and Hornsby, with the first service held at 3pm on Sunday 31 January 1909. From 1919 to 1960 it was a branch church in the Parish of Pymble with St Ives. After the appointment of David Davis in 1960 the church expanded and new facilities were built, with the foundation stone laid on 29 February 1964. Full Parish status was gained in 1966.[1]

When built in 1964, the congregation numbered 200. By 1986 that number had risen to 677.[2] At the 1988 Friday and Sunday Easter services around 2,000 people passed through the church.[3] In 1990 the Christ Church congregation was the third largest in Sydney, behind St Paul's at Castle Hill and St Mathias in Centennial Park.[2]
