proposed preamble for race at Wikipedia[edit]

The biological view of humankind is that it is made from nature and nurture. An alternate view, the modern denial, is that humankind is made from nurture aloneThe Blank Slate.

Considering that race policy led to the catastrophic American Civil War it is understandable that Wikipedia has edit wars over the definition of race.

In the biological view, race is defined by continental ancestry. In the modern denial, the term is socially constructed, without a scientific basis.

Old abandoned explanation[edit]

This word has been defined by different communities in different ways at different times. Each community may define the word as they wish, but to communicate in the world at large, and to communicate at Wikipedia without suffering edit wars, all must use another word or a hyphenated word such as race-geo and race-anthro.

The term race-geo is for the community that defines race by the geography of ancestral location. The term race-geo is defined the way the census bureau and the courts define it. The concept was known long before the time of Darwin, but he offered the explanation that the diversity of the peoples of the world emerges from adaptation to their to their local environments. Considerably more diversity arises from the neutral theory of molecular evolution as illustrated by where REF Japan vrs China

The term race-anthro is for the rest of you to define.

Many thoughtful people wish to avoid trouble, so they simply refuse to speak of race, or claim the word cannot or should not be defined. We might term them race-deniers. Paradoxically (or understandably) these are often the same people who have made important contributions in the study of human biodiversity.
