Kwanyama King[edit]
Since the death of king Mandume Ya Ndemufayo in 1917 6 February, the Kwanyama people has been without a king and their kingship or kingdom was abolished untill February 1988 when Cornelius Mwetupunga Shelungu was proclaimed or named a chief in succeeding Ndemufayo. In 2005 queen Martha Christian Nelumbu succeeded her cousin Shelungu at the age of 74,she was crowned as a first queen of Kwanyama by the traditional leader of Kwanyama George Nelulu and the pesident Hifikepunye Pohamba and Dr.Sam Nuyoma were present when the queen was inaugurated at omhedi. The kingdom of Kwanyama today is situated at omhedi in ohangwena region.[1]
