Reword is a user script for making brief corrections directly to Wikipedia pages, without having to go to the edit page. To enable Reword, add the following import line to your monobook.js.

importScript('User:M~enwiki/reword.js');

To use Reword:

1. Hold down Ctrl and select (highlight) the text
2. A box pops up to correct the text
3. After fixing it, press OK

This changes the text and leaves an informative edit summary:

REWORD: 'theyre' → 'their'
REWORD: 'A native of Benevento, tradition states that he was sent' → 'He was a native of Benevento, and is traditionally said to have been sent'

Problems with the script may be reported to User_talk:Decltype.

Tips and troubleshooting[edit]

  • Don't forget to bypass your cache (usually with Ctrl-F5) which refreshes your loaded scripts.
  • If using the new beta, import the script into your your vector.js instead.
  • Sometimes changes across periods fail. This is because some editors like to put two spaces after their periods in the wikisource, while HTML prefers only one.
  • Try to select a bit more than just the word you're changing, so there's context in the edit summary - it ignores selections of under 5 or so characters.
  • As you select, your background will change. A red background means the markup is too complicated to handle. Yellow means that you're telling it to change "some words" but the same words appear many times, and it can't know which ones you're changing. Green means it's good.
