Nadine Elizabeth Louise Gerrard (born May 30th 1980) is a British singer, songwriter, dancer, television personality, fashion designer and entrepreneur, better known by her stage name Nadine Coyle. Coyle rose to prominence in 1995 as an original member of girl group Sugababes. She and childhood friend Nicola Roberts are the only members to appear on every album release since their debut album was released in 1995, when Coyle was just 15 years old.

The group have released fourteen studio albums, three compilation albums, a remix album and sixty-two singles. The group are one of the most successful British girl groups of all time, selling a total of 20.82 million records in the UK alone. In the 2008 Guinness World Records, they were listed as having the "Most Consecutive Top Ten Entries in the UK by a Female Group". In 2013, the group were named the UK's best-selling girl group of the 21st Century.

In 2011, Coyle begun her solo career with the release of her debut album "Breakaway". The album saw six UK top ten single being released and expanded to Australia and New Zealand, selling 2.7 million copies worldwide. In 2013, her sophomore album "Nadine..." was released, again having six UK top ten singles and has sold over a million copies worldwide. The lead single "My Life Would Suck Without You" gave Coyle her first solo UK #1 single after achieving eleven as a featured artist and eleven as a member of Sugababes, giving her a total of 23 UK #1 singles, the most in UK chart history.

Music Career

Return To Sugababes (2012-Present)

In April 2012, Coyle and her bandmates Cheryl Cole and Nicola Roberts announced their reunion to release the group's 14th studio album. "A Million Lights" became their fifteenth UK top ten album whilst lead single "Call My Name" was their tenth UK #1 single. The album was however wasn't as successful as previous releases, selling 300,000 copies in the UK and being certified Platinum. Following the 12 date Million Lights Tour, former members Kimberley Walsh and Sarah Harding announced their return to the group.

Their third compilation album "Sugababes:Hits" on November 26th 2012. The album reached #9 in the UK and saw their 11th #1 single "Headlines (Friendship Never Ends)" and sold 450,000 copies in the UK. The album was released to celebrate 10 years since Walsh and Harding's first reunion with the group. Shortly after a tour, Walsh and Harding left the group for a final time.

The group's fifteenth album was due for release in 2013 but has been delayed by Polydor Records. The lead single "Flatline" peaked at #5 in the UK, despite being released on a Friday.

TV Career

The X Factor (2004-2010, 2014-)

In May 2004, Coyle was confirmed as a vocal coach on the new Simon Cowell created ITV talent show "The X Factor", a replacement for Pop Idol, which would air later in the year. She chose to work with judge Sharon Osbourne's category, the 16-24s, with one act Tabby Callaghan coming in third place. Coyle had public issues with eventual winner when Brookstein derided her vocal ability during an interview.

In 2005, Coyle returned with Osbourne for the show's second series, mentoring the Over 25s category. Their act Andy Abraham became the runner-up with 49.4% of the final vote. After the final showdown in week 5, controversy was created around the judges' voting process when Walsh cast the deciding vote to keep The Conway Sisters, who are Irish, in the show at the expense of Maria Lawson. Coyle later claimed that Lawson was the victim of the "Irish Mafia" after Walsh chose to keep The Conway Sisters in. When the voting statistics were revealed at the end of the series, Lawson was revealed to have received twice as many public votes as The Conway Sisters. The controversy heightened when it was revealed that Walsh had also worked with The Conway Sisters personally prior to them auditioning for The X Factor. Coyle's "Irish Mafia" remark resulted in an investigation by media regulator Ofcom, however on 9 January 2006, Ofcom cleared Coyle of any wrong-doing.

Coyle and Osborne would team up for a third series in 2006, mentoring the Over 25s for a second time. During the auditions, Coyle appeared as a guest judge for the first time at the London audition dates due to Cowell wanting to test how a fourth permanent judge, with a new category, would work in the future. Osbourne's act Ben Mills came third place whilst Cowell had two acts in the final two.

In 2007, Coyle was due to become a permanent judge on the show but pulled out due to not feeling comfortable. Louis Walsh was temporarily dropped from the panel and replaced by Brian Friedman, whilst Australian singer Dannii Minogue joined the show. Friedman would step down from the role after the London auditions and was replaced by former judge Walsh. This would be the first series Coyle didn't work with Osbourne's acts, instead working with new judge Dannii Minogue. Minogue would have two acts in the final two, Leon Jackson and Rhydian Roberts, with Jackson winning the show.

Following a feud with Minogue during series 4, Osbourne left the show and Cowell asked Coyle to become the new fourth judge. Instead, Coyle campaigned publicly for her Sugababes bandmate Cheryl Cole to join the show, which she ultimately did. For the first time, Coyle did not work exclusively with one act, instead being named the 'Head Of Artist Development', working with all acts on choreography and production as well as vocals. During the series, Coyle had a highly publicised feud with Louis Walsh, culminating in the final week when Walsh refused to allow Coyle to work with his group JLS. She returned in the same role in 2009, continuing her feud with Walsh when he criticised Coyle and Cole's Sugababes vocal ability live on the first show. Following Cole's criticism of Walsh's group Kandy Rain, he would reply "Girls, some girls just get jealous when they see new fresh girls coming out. Sugababes wear clothes like that and they don't sound as good as you did" before turning around and looking at Coyle who was sitting in the audience. Coyle retorted on The Xtra Factor following the show "Sugababes do wear clothes like that, but on a tour and after we've been performing for 14 years old. This isn't the image to launch a group, it's something you do when you are established."

In 2010, Coyle returned for her final series, leaving at the end following the departures of Cowell, Cole and Minogue. Her role on the show was reduced, only appeared at the Judges Homes and Live Show stages due to writing her debut solo album. She was initially due to return in 2011 but pulled out due to promoting her album. She has performed on the show every series since it's debut.

Personal Life

Coyle was born Nadine Elizabeth Louise Gerrard on May 30th 1980 to Paul and Julie Gerrard. She has one older brother Paul Gerrard and is the twin sister of Liverpool and England FC captain Steven Gerrard. She was born 3 minutes after Steven. The family grew up in Whiston, Merseyside. She attended Huyton High School until the age of 13 when she began to be privately tutored.

In May 1997, Coyle moved to London and began sharing a flat with Sugababes bandmates Nicola Roberts and Cheryl Cole. In June 1997, she first met Chelsea footballer John Terry. They began living together in February 2000 and became a fixture in the tabloid press and gossip magazines, mainly due to Terry's infidelities. The first came in October 2000 when The Sun printed a number of stories from girls claiming to have slept with Terry whilst he was on holiday. Coyle moved back in with Roberts and Cole but would return back to her own flat in January 2001.

In 2003, The Mirror printed explicit pictures of Terry having a threesome. The pictures were edited to conform to press regulation but unedited versions would appear online shortly after. Coyle decided to buy a new flat in the same complex as her Sugababes bandmates and Terry would join her there two months later, again forgiving him for his cheating. In December 2005, two days after Coyle announced her pregnancy, a prostitute claimed Terry had paid her £25,000 for sex whilst away on football duties. Terry would leave their new Chelsea mansion after admitting sleeping with her but denying he paid her, just a month after they moved in, and didn't return until April 2006.

The couple's twins George and Summer Terry were born on May 18th 2006 and the couple went on to marry on June 17th 2007 at Blenheim Palace. She would then change her name legally to Nadine Louise Terry.

In January 2010, it was reported that Terry had been involved in a four-month affair with Vanessa Perroncel, the former girlfriend of his former Chelsea team mate Wayne Bridge. The story was protected at first by a "super-injunction" which prevented the media from reporting the story but this was lifted after just a week by a judge who said "Mr Terry, these injunctions are not used for your means, they do not exist to help irresponsible people cover up their infidelities in the hope it can protect their public standing as a good family man." The story was found to be untrue, with both Terry and Perroncel denying sexual relations ever happened but it was just a friendship. Despite this, Coyle announced in February 2010 that she had split from Terry and had started divorce proceedings. On September 2nd 2010, the couple's decree nisi was confirmed ending their three year marriage. In May 2010, Coyle changed her name again to Nadine Coyle-Gerrard, incorporating her stage name legally for the first time.

Just days after she announced the divorce, it was reported that Coyle was in a relationship with comedian, and a friend of almost 10 years, Russell Howard. It was confirmed by Coyle herself in April 2010. The couple moved in together in December 2010. In August 2013, Coyle confirmed she was pregnant with her third, and Howard's first child. The couple became engaged on New Years Eve 2013 and she gave birth to their daughter in February 2014.
