A Drum Kit normally consists of: a hi-hat, crash and a ride cymbal, snare drum, bass drum and 2 mounted toms+ hardware(stands, kick pedal etc.) Now you have to set up the drum kit right. First put a splash cymbal (which is considered to be an effect cymbal) between the two rack toms. The Crash Cymbal should normally be on the left side (if you are a right handed drummer). The Ride cymbal should be on the right side. The hi-hats should be beside the snare on the left. If you have another Crash Cymbal it should go on the right side of the Ride Cymbal. A China cymbal (another effect cymbal) should go on the right hand side of your second Crash.
