The act of facepalming refers to the act of slapping the palm of your hand to your forehead, and (though uncommon) dragging your hand down over your face. It is most commonly done when someone says something stupid or irrelevant to a subject, in frustration or agitation, or when another does something stupid.

Due to the inability of emotions to be expressed effectively on the internet, the term "facepalm" has enjoyed status as a minor internet meme.
