I. BACKGROUND

Born in Albuquerque New Mexico in 1956, I began playing trumpet at the age of ten. Studied privately with Kenny Anderson in Junior High School, Fenton Katz, Ed Wolfe in High School, and Sam Trimble at N.M.S.U. Participated in solo and ensemble competition, All State and Albuquerque Youth Symphony. After hearing the legendary master trumpet player Clark Terry at his music clinic, I knew I wanted to be a jazz musician. Upon recognizing my incredible musical gift, Mr. Terry took me under his tutelage and guided my career towards success. I have also studied privately with Woody Shaw, Cat Anderson, Freddie Hubbard, and Carl Saunders.

Music technology experience includes Sibelius and ProTools. Music copying experience, ensemble coaching, leading big band rehearsals, recruitment, promotion, and Jazz and Latin Jazz ensemble direction, and arranging in a clave format are some of my other qualifications. I am also fluent in Spanish.

Additionally, my teaching experience at private clinics and schools includes University of New Mexico, University of Texas at El Paso, Universidad de Mexico, Royal Academy of Music, Sherborne School of Music in England, Bundess Jazz Orchestra in Germany, and Taller De Music of Barcelona, Spain. I have also taught at the University of Southern California, California State University at Los Angeles, the Dick Grove School of Music, Cal Arts, University of New Hampshire and other educational institutions.
