Martyn Andrews is a British television presenter, broadcast journalist, trained actor and singer. He is currently presenting culture and travel programmes on Russia Today TV and writing for various travel sites.
Early life[edit]
Martyn Andrews was born as Andrew Martin in Liverpool, England. At 18 years old Martyn became member of the “National Youth Music Theatre” of Great Britain. In 2000 he gained a BA (hons) Degree in Performance from Mountview Theatre School and in 2005 studied the NCTJ Journalism course at the No Sweat College London.
Martyn’s first ever major television presenting job was for a BBC youth special "Songs of Praise" shown to over 18 million viewers worldwide. Knowing Martyn’s musical singing talents the BBC later asked him back as a guest soloist on the TV live event “Merseyglory", staged in front of 40,000 people at Everton’s Goodison Park Stadium.
As a professional Performer he took lead roles in several UK and European major musicals, ranging from Andrew Lloyd Webbers “Starlight Express” to “Whistle Down the Wind” before moving full time into Broadcast Journalism.
Career[edit]
Martyn Andrews has hosted, created and produced a range of award winning TV shows on several major networks. His current TV shows have been sold, broadcast and even dubbed on channels all over the world.
In 2003 Martyn commuted between Tel Aviv and several locations in Egypt. This was for the adventure travel show “Undiscovered Egypt” for RTVI in Israel (In English) From sleeping alone in the Giza pyramids to discovering Egyptian secrets. Martyn's story was featured in the book “The Pyramid Quest” written by Dr. Robert M. Schoch.
Moving to New York in 2004, he hosted and produced the award winning TV documentary series “My Abyss” - a dangerous diving show for Overseas Media in Manhattan. Training dozens of suitable exotic locations around the globe. In the summer of 2005 he moved to Moscow for the Launch of Russia Today. Martyn co-ordinated and set up the award winning live studio programme “Entertainment Today”, which he hosted live for three years and hosted the original food and travel show "Culinary Quest".
Martyn’s television career includes everything from hosting a live UK based chat show “Lounge Living TV”, a “Live Big Brother Event” for UK’s popular “T4”, teaching English to every child in Italy (as the face of the country’s main Language DVD series to hosting the live coverage of the Eurovision Song contest in Moscow 2009.
In 2010 he begins with two new TV shows "Venice of the North: A Season in St Petersburg, a travel programme on Russia's stunning former capital and "A Prime Recipe" a food show. As well as new blogs and published articles, freelance travel advice, interviews and features in the UK and American press.
