This is the user page for Zaerym, which is a username I thought was creative when I was in high school and I continue to use.

Biography[edit]

My real name is Garrett Bernard, and I'm a Chemistry major and German Studies minor at Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky. I've previously studied abroad in Fuerstenfeldbruck, a suburb of Munich, and interned for a summer in Wiesbaden.

I'm also a huge advocate for the Kentucky Governor's Scholars Program, which I both attended and worked at, and will be working there again in the summer of 2010.

I'm also currently eyeballing graduate schools, and I think I'm going to try and combine my interest in space alongside my interest in chemistry via research in astrochemistry.

Interests[edit]

At one time, I was a volunteer administrator (and modification programmer) for the now [mostly] defunct Perl message board system Ikonboard, and I use to be an active member of the Star Trek Simulation Forum. When I started college, though, I became too busy, and had to drop both from my life.

There are also several television shows I enjoy, including 24 and How I Met Your Mother, though I don't get to watch very much television anymore due to time constraints. I was also a fan of Stargate SG-1 and Battlestar Galactica.

Locations[edit]

I grew up in Grayson County, KY, and still try to keep track of what's happening there. While I don't expect I'll ever return (mostly due to chemistry research interests), I do really like visiting home. The county has two lakes, several festivals, and a bunch of great people.

I now live in Lexington, though I'll be moving on from here (and probably out of Kentucky) for graduate school. I've been to Germany every summer since I started college, either to visit, for an internship, or to study.

As for my favorite cities, Stockholm is probably at the top, followed pretty closely by Berlin, Munich, and Vienna in no particular order. Edinburgh is also really pleasant. At some point, I'm going to venture outside of Europe, but that hasn't happened yet. Hopefully the chance to visit other places will happen soon.

Wikipedia[edit]

I love Wikipedia. It is my first stop anytime I'm writing a paper, whether it be for chemistry, political science, German, or whatever. I'm not sure how I would get through college without it; research would be a lot more painful if Wikipedia didn't exist.
