April 2023[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm TJRC. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Pictures at an Exhibition, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. TJRC (talk) 21:46, 29 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi TJRC,
I'm not very computer savvy, so I do not know what constitutes a citation for the addition to Pictures at an Exhibition's list of orchestrations, or even how to make one. I am the composer of this arrangement, and can assure you that if you Google me, you will find that I am a legitimate one whose music is played around the world. If you need verification of my having been commissioned by Sinfonia da Camera, you would just need to email the conductor of that orchestra, Ian Hobson at ihobson0708 (at) gmail (dot) com. I would appreciate your restoring my addition to the list. If you read the notes and citations on the Pictures at an Exhibition article, you'll also find my name as a source for information about the piece, as I am not only a composer, but an authority on this work. I own the largest collection of recordings and scores of the work (more than 2000!), and review all CDs containing it for Fanfare Magazine. On my website, www.daviddeboorcanfield.com, you'll find a discography of the work, again the largest such published by anyone.
Many thanks,
David

Hi, David. the two links provided above, Wikipedia:Reliable sources and Help:Referencing for beginners, give you a start. To summarize, unless there are published sources independent of the topic, it should not be added to the article. This means, of course, that your own web site is not such a source.
In addition, since the passage you're seeking to add is about your own work, you should read Wikipedia's conflict-of-interest guideline and ensure that you follow it.
If there is any actual coverage of your work in a reliable source, and if you're hesitant to add it yourself for fear of running afoul of the COI behavioral guideline, please leave a message on Talk:Pictures at an Exhibition (or on my talk page) and another editor will assess the request and add it if appropriate.
By the way, if you have over 2000 recordings and scores of the work, you're certainly ahead of me! I thought I had a lot -- probably about 200 -- but my collection pales in comparison to yours! TJRC (talk) 21:59, 2 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
