Re:File:Jup_ganymede_comp.png

Adding move to commons and orphan image templates is automated and performed by bots - there is no need to do this manually Bulwersator (talk) 07:16, 22 August 2012 (UTC)

Well, since it wasn't being added, and there's nothing at Template:Copy to Wikimedia Commons saying that you shouldn't add it, why not add it? It should speed up moving of eligible files, right? -- 76.65.128.252 (talk) 07:09, 31 August 2012 (UTC)

Another welcome![edit]

Thanks for your contribution in Talk:Metro Cinema. Get a username if possible (optional). --Tito Dutta 22:32, 22 August 2012 (UTC)

You really should get a username. Titodutta is correct that it is optional, but if you want to be taken more seriously on Wikipedia, you need to get a username. Because of past actions of some non-logged-in users, many editors (including myself) take a justified dim view of users who can't be bothered to sign up for an account. R3[edit]

  • Hmm, the Speedy deletion criteria page is a little different from the template's recounting; I'll think about it, although in general, missing a " is a pretty plausible typo anyhow. One missing, extra, or misplaced character is a pretty common typing mistake. WilyD 06:30, 24 August 2012 (UTC)

Thank you![edit]

That is quite a mess you are cleaning up there. What was with the db-r3 denial anyway? Trying to make things as hard as possible. Thanks for all of the hard work! Jim1138 (talk) 07:11, 25 August 2012 (UTC)

Sure thing. I personally think the two from the section above qualifies for R3, but the admin didn't. -- 76.65.128.252 (talk) 07:13, 25 August 2012 (UTC)
BTW: Have you considered wp:proposed deletion? Might be simpler. I am not that familiar with it. Cheers Jim1138 (talk)
WP:PROD doesn't apply to redirects, AFAIR. -- 76.65.128.252 (talk) 08:07, 25 August 2012 (UTC)
That's correct. BigNate37(T) 22:38, 25 August 2012 (UTC)

Non-English redirects[edit]

It's a little disruptive to have a pile of these redirects nominated while the discussion at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2012 August 24 is ongoing. It has already spilled onto other pages, and the more of this type of nomination that we get right now, the more of a mess sorting things out will be. Would you please hold off on nominating this type of redirect until after the dust settles on the initial debate? BigNate37(T) 20:32, 25 August 2012 (UTC)

They're not all nominated for the same reason, since I've used different reasons for them. And it is RFD, redirects for discussion, where redirects are put up for discussion. I have bundled them in logical units, so not every redirect is separately nominated. Each set is nominated under a rationale customized for that set. I've also limited the number of sets nominated each day, so that there are not all that many sets under discussion on each day. Some of the non-English redirects under discussion use a rationale not pertaining to their language appropriateness. Though since I've already nominated all the ones I found while investigating Demi Lovato (all the ones I found resulted from investigating that) I don't think I'll be nominating more in a while. -- 76.65.128.252 (talk) 22:28, 25 August 2012 (UTC)
Yes, I recognize that you're doing it sensibly, and thank you for that. However in the short term I think it's best if we put a hold on things until a more general discussion has taken place (I think I put it better at D. Lovato's RfD, if you're watching that). As an aside I do appreciate the effort you're putting into improving our redirect landscape, and in general I agree with your nominations. Please don't take this as an attempt to chastise you, but as a request from someone who respects the work you're doing. BigNate37(T) 22:37, 25 August 2012 (UTC)
Well, as I said, I've already nominated all the redirects I found highly questionable from my investigation of redirects resulting from looking at Demi Lovato, extending to other articles (other non-English redirects more closely related to their subjects, I left unnominated). So I don't think I'll be doing more for a while. -- 76.65.128.252 (talk) 22:44, 25 August 2012 (UTC)
So I renominated one of the ones that were deleted by R3 previously and then recreated. But I have not nominated Тупак Шакур since you've asked me to hold off on new redirects similar to the Demi Lovato nominations -- 76.65.128.252 (talk) 07:35, 1 September 2012 (UTC)

Talk:Skipsfjorden disambiguation[edit]

I declined your technical move request, since there is already a move discussion in progress at Talk:Skipsfjorden disambiguation. Please give your opinion there. You are correct that 'Skipsfjorden disambiguation' is not the usual format. Thanks, EdJohnston (talk) 00:23, 1 September 2012 (UTC)

Whether that passes or not, wouldn't WP:INTDABLINK end up having to need one (page/redirect) at Skipsfjorden (disambiguation) in either case? -- 76.65.128.252 (talk) 07:36, 1 September 2012 (UTC)
Unclear on what you are saying. The DAB is now at Skipsfjorden, since the page at Skipsfjorden disambiguation was speedy deleted as a G7. EdJohnston (talk) 17:18, 1 September 2012 (UTC)
Since the dab page was relocated, that entire reasoning is moot. So, all that needs doing is making a redirect from Skipsfjorden (disambiguation) to Skipsfjorden per WP:INTDABLINK.

James Bond character article[edit]

Regarding your various comments around various talk pages: there is no such proposal to convert James Bond in film into James Bond (film character) and you have misunderstood what has been proposed. I have clarified the point further for you on that talk page. - SchroCat (^@) 08:07, 2 September 2012 (UTC)

Thanks, that clears it up nicely. -- 76.65.128.252 (talk) 08:16, 2 September 2012 (UTC)

File moving requests[edit]

Hi, I'm TRLIJC19, a file mover on the English Wikipedia. I fulfilled all of your file renaming requests. However, even though the new file names were a bit better, they were not really needed per WP:FMV. The reasons to move are:

  1. Uploader requested
  2. Change from completely meaningless names into suitable names, according to what the image displays
  3. Correct misleading names into accurate ones
  4. Change generic bio-names into binomial scientific names
  5. Correct obvious errors in file names (e.g. wrong proper nouns or false historical dates)
  6. Harmonize file names of a set of images (so that only one part of all names differs) to ease their usage in templates (e.g. diagram symbols, scans of pages of a book, maps)
  7. Disambiguate files with overly similar names (the software allows for multiple different files to have the same name, but with different capitalization (ninja example) or different expressions of the same filetype extension (bunny example), however these are not ideal situations.
  8. Remove pejorative, offensive or crude language that would not be appropriate in the file description

None of your requests really fit these criteria, and the only reason I performed the moves was because it made the file names a bit better. In the future, please only file rename requests if the request fits one of the above criteria. Also, the request to rename File:Renan.jpg to File:Ernest Renan.jpg had to be altered to File:Ernest Renan1.jpg, because the former filename was already in use. Thanks, TRLIJC19 (talkcontribs) 05:31, 4 September 2012 (UTC)

I think "iron ore" fulfills "Correct misleading names into accurate ones" and "Image (7)" fulfills "Change from completely meaningless names into suitable names, according to what the image displays" and Renan fulfills "Disambiguate files with overly similar names" (considering its upload history of other Renans) -- 76.65.128.252 (talk) 06:04, 4 September 2012 (UTC)
You're right about the "Image7"; I forgot about that one. However, "Correct misleading names into accurate ones" is something like "File:Dogs" representing "File:Blankets"; "iron ore" is roughly similar. "Renan" would not have needed to be changed unless there were a wide variety of different images. TRLIJC19 (talkcontribs) 06:36, 4 September 2012 (UTC)
Though Renan is a disambiguation page, and pictures two other people named Renan got uploaded on top of this Renan, so that doesn't count? And in "iron ore" it wasn't the ore that was pictured, it was the top of one open pit mine, (such as "diamond" being a picture of the top of the Kimberley mine, instead of a diamond; or "gold" being the picture of a miner in a stream with a pan) so while related, wouldn't be the same thing, many open pit mines would look like that, for some other ore. -- 76.65.128.252 (talk) 07:02, 4 September 2012 (UTC)

Requested moves[edit]

Hi. This is to let you know that I have proposed multiple page moves at Talk:Disability judo classification#Requested move 3 and have also proposed a move at Talk:Disability racquetball classification#Requested move 3. I am sending the same message to everyone who commented on the previous round of move requests for these articles. Regards, --Stfg (talk) 12:42, 29 October 2012 (UTC)
