University Automation System[edit]
Introduction[edit]
A UAS or University Automation system is a single integrated software system designed specifically for educational institutes solving all its needs like General Administration, Learning management, email, group mailing, file storing, news and events, directory service, alumni networking, placement cell, e-learning, distance education, course resources, online communities, human resource etc. UAS is comparatively a new concept and few companies provide such solutions. Some are SaaS (Software as a service) based other are sold as stand alone packages. The advantage with SaaS based system is that it eliminates the need for setting up servers and data centers, thus saving massive infrastructure costs.
Background[edit]
University automation dates back to the days when colleges started adapting to software for basic functions like accounting or library management. But with the growing number of students in various universities and their growing diversity institutions were looking for more solutions. To cater to this, companies started providing solutions for e-learning these were called LMSs or Learning Management Systems. A learning management system (LMS) is software for delivering, tracking and managing training/education. LMSs range from systems for managing training/educational records to software for distributing courses over the Internet and offering features for online collaboration.
UAS is the latest solution that has taken university automation to its final goal.
