hi. my 18 year old daughter had a major head injury due to a 35 foot fall into rocks in big sur. she was airlifted to a hospital where she was stabilized in icu. her initial ct scan showed SAH, to what degree I do not know. she was lucid and seemed to be improving for four days and they were readying her to be removed to a regular hospital room.then, quite suddenly, her conscious level deteriorated and she complained that she was dying and had a terrible headache. I brought this to the neurosurgeons attention and after my insistence was able to get them to do another ct scan the results of which were unchanged from previous scans (no further bleeding of the SAH). they left it at that for a few hours until morning at which time they realized there was a major problem. they found she had pneumonia and administered penecillin . this apparently didn't have the effect they were looking for because not long after telling me they had found the problem (pneumonia) they said she was having seizures and asking if she was allergic to penecillin. she was not. from there things went downhill. the head of the department then came in and asked me if he could do a procedure on her which could help but wasn't without risk. I said yes and he drilled a hole into her head and dropped in a probe which enabled him to determine that there was no electrical impulses and that she was brain dead. the conclusion that was given at the post death meeting was that they had no idea what happened. my question, if you would be so gracious as to answer, and with so little facts surrounding this event, is this: doesn't this seem quite obviously to be at least consistent with symptoms of vasospasms related to SAH.
