Hi.
[edit] Wikimania 2012 bid, DC chapter & next meetup!
- At WikiXDC in January, User:Harej proposed that DC submit a bid to host Wikimania 2012. A bid and organizing committee is being formed and seeks additional volunteers to help. Please look at our bid page and sign up if you want to help out. You can also signup for the bid team's email list.
- To support the Wikimania bid, more events like WikiXDC, and outreach activities like collaborations with the Smithsonian (ongoing) and National Archives, there also has been discussion of forming Wikimedia DC, as an official Wikimedia chapter. You can express interest and contribute to chapter discussions on the Wikimedia DC Meta-Wiki pages.
- To discuss all this and meet up with special guest, Dutch Wikipedian User:Kim Bruning, there will be a meetup, Wikipedia:Meetup/DC 16 this Tuesday at 7pm, at Capitol City Brewery, Metro Center. There will be a pre-meetup Wikimania team meeting at 6pm at the same location.
Apologies for the short notice for this meetup, but let's discuss when, where & what for DC Meetup #17. Also, if you haven't yet, please join wikimedia-dc mailing list to stay informed. Cheers, User:Aude (talk)

[edit] IRC chat
Hello, there is an upcoming, very informal discussion on IRC on the freenode channel ##chzzalpha connect (quick webchat link) on the 6th March 2011 at 17:00 UTC concerning ways to improve help over IRC, and other matters relating to Wiki?edia channels in general, but mostly about #wikipedia-en-help.
This is just a friendly, informal chat. Nothing official, no fixed agenda. There is nothing 'secretive' about it - anyone is quite welcome. Some of you had a chat there, the other day. We wanted to invite them to carry on discussions, at a prearranged time - and thought it courteous to ask group contacts and channel founders too. Or if you signed up manually.
If you aren't at all interested, feel free to remove yourself from the names we've spammed this to, which is in User:123Hedgehog456/IRC informal chat users. If you didn't sign up, well, people have been adding loads of names to the list, so someone might have accidentally added your name.
Thank you, Chzz ► and 123Hedgehog456 19:49, 15 February 2011 (UTC).
Message made by Chzz, with help from 123Hedgehog456.

[edit] Why did CallWeaver and OpenPBX pages were deleted?
Hi! I am sorry touching such an old question. I am a freelance programmer and was just looking arbitrary information about some old stuff while suddenly found that the articles about CallWeaver and OpenPBX were deleted. Trying to deduce the reason, I was failed. Since I found you as some of the authors of the deletion I am kindly asking you to explain me please in simple words: what is the reason of deletion? Were the creators of CallWeaver found to be a gangsters? But why not to just write this? We have an article abot Cosa Nostra for example... Or CallWeaver project found to be failed? Again: why not to write this? Some information is better than none... So, I wish to have some any explanation... Thnaks in advance... Dims (talk) 16:51, 18 March 2011 (UTC)
- Hello Dims. CallWeaver was deleted because of a deletion discussion (Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/CallWeaver). OpenPBX was deleted with the proposed deletion process because "This 'disambiguation' page references only articles that have been deleted for non-notability reasons, although CallWeaver is IMO definitely notable, there is no appropriate article on it, a disambiguation is unwarranted at this time." Both were deleted a few years ago, so you should feel free to create new articles if you can address the concerns brought up in the deletion processes. Cbrown1023 talk 22:50, 19 March 2011 (UTC)

[edit] Image filter referendum Timeline wording: "spam mail sent"??
Hi Casey:
I know I'm not the first to notice & be taken somewhat aback by the choice of words "spam mail sent" on the Referendum's Timeline. Could you please explain, as posting author, the choice of words here?
Someone else has already tagged it for clarification.
I think this phrase is a public relations blunder on the Foundation or committee's part! Thanks for any enlightenment on this, either here or on the notice's Discussion page. — DennisDallas (talk) 11:03, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
- It's a little bit of comic relief. :-) It's actually pretty common to talk about mass e-mails as spam, even if they're not abusive and unsolicited. Even though the people we're sending it to care about it and can opt-out, we're still sending a mail to tons of people, so it's spam. ;-) Someone else thought it was a weird phrasing too though, so they just removed the word "spam". Thanks! Cbrown1023 talk 14:48, 16 August 2011 (UTC)

My newspaper's web site is listed as a source for this article on wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jos%C3%A9_Reynal-Restrepo.
We have pulled the article cited from our web site pending an investigation. We would like the source link removed until we finish our investigation. How can we get that removed?

[edit] Discussion Page Vandalism
Hi Cbrown1023,
The discussion page for the article titled, Comma Johanneum, appears to have been vandalized or highjacked. Almost all discussion over the last several years (a lot of information) has been deleted and has been replaced by comments by someone identified as "StevenAvery" during September and October of 2011.
I don't know whether this person identified as "StevenAvery" actually is Steven Avery or whether this person is someone who is pretending to be Steven Avery. What I do know from non-wiki discussion forums regarding King James Only-ism is that a person identified as Steven Avery frequently presents himself as a PRO-Johannine-Comma zealot.
Since the deleted material on the discussion page for the Comma Johanneum article was almost entirely ANTI-Johannine-Comma in nature, it is logical that the mentality of a PRO-Johannine-Comma zealot might be responsible for the deletion of that material.
When material is inappropriately deleted, is it gone forever?
In the article itself, a new section titled "notes" features 12 notes that are pro-Johannine-Comma. I don't know whether or not the person identified as "StevenAvery" on the discussion page is the person who added those 12 notes. I I don't see anything wrong with adding pro-Johannine-Comma material either to the article itself or to the discussion page, even though I strongly disagree with it. It is, after all, the other view regarding this topic. However, I have a big problem with previously existing material being arbitrarily deleted, as has been done on the discussion page.

- UPDATE. I reverted the discussion page for the Comma Johanneum article to what it was before it was replaced by Mr. Avery's comments. It now contains the preexisting material plus some comments that Mr. Avery add to it. I left a message on the discussion page and on Mr. Avery's talk page stating what I did and telling him that he can add whatever comments he wishes as long as he does not delete the preexisting material. I'll wait and see how he reacts. 7Jim7 (talk) 16:41, 12 October 2011 (UTC)

-
- UPDATE 2. Please disregard my previous complaint. I've discovered that MR. AVERY DID NOTHING WRONG. The older discussion material had simply been automatically archived by Miszabot. I've reverted the discussion/talk page for that article to the way that I had found it, and I've apologized to Mr. Avery on that discussion/talk page and on Mr. Avery's talk page, and now I apologize to you for involving you in what turned out to be my false accusation against Mr. Avery. I'm sorry. Jim. 7Jim7 (talk) 05:00, 13 October 2011 (UTC)

[edit] can you please help me edit?
Hi Cbrown 1023,
Can you please help me change the following inaccurate information about Tarawih (Muslim prayers during the month of Ramadan)
It mentions the following in the sub-article...
Tarawih (Arabic: تراويح) refers to extra congregational prayers performed by Muslims at night in the Islamic month of Ramadan. They are not compulsory; however, many Muslims pray these prayers in the night during Ramadan. Some scholars maintain that Tarawih is not a Sunnah, but is the preponed Tahajjud prayer shifted to post-Isha for the ease of believers.
Please change the part that says "Some scholars maintain that Tarawih is not a Sunnah" this is incorrect information because the Tarawih is definitely considered a "sunnah" or prophetic action/tradition,he was known to have prayed these prayers. Otherwise millions of Muslims around the world would not have prayed these extra rewarding prayers in the month of Ramadan, although not mandatory, today millions of Muslims still pray them for extra good deeds.
So please change it to "the tarawih is considered a sunnah (prophetic action) that Muslims around the world until today pray to follow the footsteps of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him)"
Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Islam4peace (talk • contribs) 04:45, 2 December 2011 (UTC)

[edit] Edit warring and Violation of WP:OWN by user:John sargis
Please keep an eye on the article on Takis Fotopoulos. user:John sargis, a member[9] of Takis Fotopoulos' political-ideological faction (Inclusive Democracy) acts in a disruptive manner by deleting referenced information that is not flattering to Fotopoulos. This information is taken straight from the Greek section of Inclusive Democracy's website: it is an exceedingly long announcement in Greek by Inclusive Democracy that, among other conspiracy theories it sets forth, accuses the Free Software movement and organizations like Democracy Now! and Fairness and Accuracy In Reporting of being accessories to the master plan of the "transnational elite" and the New World Order. It is a clear attempt on behalf of Inclusive Democracy members to censor Wikipedia because some things they said could make them look bad. Also, do have a look at the Talk page of the concerned article (the article on Takis Fotopoulos and the discussion of the AfD (when ID members realized that their claims could and would be scrutinized, questioned and/or heavily edited and changed, they tried to have the article removed. When they didn't have their way, they posted a libelous announcement against Wikipedia on their website[10]. Elp gr (talk) 20:20, 12 January 2012 (UTC)
