owambo homesead[edit]

oshiwambo speaking people are the largest ethnic group in Namibia. They are very traditional people, they respect traditional values and these values are reflected in th way they built their homesteads.the oshiwambo homestead is made in a circular way so that it can chase evil spirits away and prevent bad stuff from entering the house. In the middle of the house there is a place called olupale in oshikwanyama. All the household members gathers at olupale to tell each other morally teaching stories, teach each other important moral values in life and it is also the place where guests are received.<reff/>http://www.my-beautiful-namibia.com/namibia-culture.html<reff/>

The homestead consists of three entrances: The main entrance (eelo/onhu) which faces the eastern direction to symbolise prosperity and good luck in Ondonga. It is believed that the Aakwampungu (ancestors) from the east bless the people are source of fortune while the Aakwampungu from the West bring bad luck. The sun rises in the east and it brings good atmosphere. <reff/>http://primefocusmag.com/article.php?title=Entrances%20and%20the%20blessing%20of%20the%20Main%20Entrance%20in%20Oshiwambo&id=361==owambo homestead==<reff/> The homestead also consists of a place called oshini a place where girls pound mahangu flour used for making traditional porridge called oshithima in oshindonga. There is a place called ondjugo this is the most respected bedroom in the house because its a place where man of the house and his lady sleep. The boys bedroom are located at the entrace of the house as it is believed that men are stong and can protect the house from danger that comes during night time. the girls alo have bedroom in the house but they are located in the middle of the house as females are percieved to be weaker in the ovambo culture.<reff/> esther simon k poytechnic of namibia<reff/>.(````)
