I am not actively participating in any Wikipedia research at this moment, however I am teaching a class during Spring Semester 2023 (January through May 2023) titled "CSCI 598: Social and Collaborative Computing." Students in the class are studying and contributing to Wikipedia in order to achieve learning objectives in peer production.

Past Work Reflected Below:

If you're here at my talk page, it's probably because Bobo.03 referred you here. We are studying how ORES (Wikipedia’s AI system for detecting vandalism and measuring quality) works and how people want ORES to work. You can email me directly to schedule an interview time, or I'm happy to discuss availability here. FauxNeme (talk) 21:05, 6 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

ORES Interview[edit]

Further to your interest in following up my post at Wikipedia_talk:Teahouse#Making_ORES_work_better_for_Wikipedia, whilst I am happy to help you, I suspect I have little more that I could add. (I felt I ought to offer some sort of reply in the absence of responses from any other hosts.) If understanding why I know so little about ORES is actually of use to you, then interview away! Nick Moyes (talk) 00:38, 1 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks so much for getting back to me Nick Moyes. Actually, having little knowledge of ORES is great! We are seeking interview participants who engage with ORES at a variety of different stakeholder levels, and the last category of interview participants we really need are editors, since ultimately, ORES exists as an infrastructure intended to serve them. As an experienced Wikipedia editor, I think you'd be a perfect fit. We are trying to understand the values that are most important to different stakeholders, so the description you already provided of your interactions with ORES is an excellent start. I'll be asking questions that get at the underlying reasons for why you'd like those types of features or interactions. I am in the CST timezone, and am happy to get up early or late to accommodate your schedule, if you'd like to participate! Thanks! FauxNeme (talk) 20:03, 1 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
OK then. On that basis, I'm happy to share my ignorance with you! I'm OK to use Skype if you wish. Perhaps you'd send me a user email with your address, and we can arrange a schedule. I'm in UTC at the moment, so after lunch (2pm) for you would be mid-evening (8pm) for me, and probably ideal. Regards, Nick Moyes (talk) 12:32, 4 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Excellent, will send you an email! Thanks! :) Best, FauxNeme (talk) 14:58, 4 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Talk page message[edit]

Hello FauxNeme, welcome to Wikipedia! I saw you recently posted messages inviting editors to participate in your research study. New talk page messages should go at the bottom of the page, not the top. You should also be aware of WP:NOTLAB, which summaries some of the issues regarding research on Wikipedia. Research is not prohibited, but needs to be done carefully. Please let me know if you have any questions. AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 16:02, 7 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi AntiCompositeNumber. Oops, thanks for the correction on the talk page convention of posting to the bottom of the page, and for taking the time to make sure I'm aware of the WP:NOTLAB policy. I've reviewed that prior to starting, and we are doing this study in collaboration with WMF staff. You correctly noticed that I am personally still learning wikipedia conventions, so I really do appreciate your message! There's more information about our study here, and we don't believe the research will disrupt wikipedia activities, but if you have any additional concerns, please do let me know and I'll bring them up with the research team. Have a good day! FauxNeme (talk) 16:11, 7 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
