What are dummy edits good for?

A dummy edit is a slight change in an article's wikitext that has no effect on the rendered page but allows you to save a useful edit summary. This is like a SMS (Short Message Service).

To make a "dummy edit" just make a slight non-rendering change to the page, fill out the edit summary with your short message including this tag: [[WP:dummy edit]] (include the four square brackets), and save your change. (Note that a null edit does not modify the wikitext and does not allow you to leave an edit summary.)

Hello Greg, have a read here about WP:CWW about taking information from one page within wikipedia (My Dad Wrote a Porno) to another (Belinda Blinked). Basically what you are doing is replicating the page without any attribution, which is not good practice, firstly because its not necessary to have two virtually identical pages, but also it may inadvertantly appear that you are claiming you did the work yourself. I will take a look and trim some of it out, but in future you need to properly attribute copied work and I think at the least you need to make an attribution on talk explaining that the work is copied. I can see that you are a new editor so if there is anything you would like help with don't hesitate to ask on my talk page. Thanks. Mramoeba (talk) 09:01, 23 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'm Oshwah. I noticed that you made a change to an article, DJ Nihal, but you didn't provide a source. I’ve removed it for now, but if you’d like to include a citation to a reliable source and re-add it, please do so! If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:26, 8 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
