Recent changes

• MediaWiki now has a stable interface policy for frontend code that more clearly defines how we deprecate MediaWiki code and wiki-based code (e.g. gadgets and user scripts). Thank you to everyone who contributed to the content and discussions. [1][2]

• The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 19 September. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 20 September. It will be on all wikis from 21 September (calendar).
• All wikis will be read-only for a few minutes on September 20. This is planned at 14:00 UTC. [3]
• All wikis will have a link in the sidebar that provides a short URL of that page, using the Wikimedia URL Shortener. [4]

• The team investigating the Graph Extension posted a proposal for reenabling it and they need your input.

The update leaves the NewPagesFeed appearance and function mostly identical to the old one, but updates the underlying code, making it easier to maintain and helping make sure the extension is not decommissioned due to maintenance issues in the future. You can try out the new Special:NewPagesFeed here - it will replace the current version soon.

Notability tip: Professors can meet WP:PROF #1 by having their academic papers be widely cited by their peers. When reviewing professor articles, it is a good idea to find their Google Scholar or Scopus profile and take a look at their h-index and number of citations. As a very rough rule of thumb, for most fields, articles on people with a h-index of twenty or more, a first-authored paper with more than a thousand citations, or multiple papers each with more than a hundred citations are likely to be kept at AfD.

Reviewing tip: If you would like like a second opinion on your reviews or simply want another new page reviewer by your side when patrolling, we recommend pair reviewing! This is where two reviewers use Discord voice chat and screen sharing to communicate with each other while reviewing the same article simultaneously. This is a great way to learn and transfer knowledge.

• The Vector 2022 skin will now remember the pinned/unpinned status for the Table of Contents for all logged-out users. [5]

Changes later this week

• The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 26 September. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 27 September. It will be on all wikis from 28 September (calendar).
• The ResourceLoader mediawiki.ui modules are now deprecated as part of the move to Vue.js and Codex. There is a guide for migrating from MediaWiki UI to Codex for any tools that use it. More details are available in the task and your questions are welcome there.
• Gadget definitions will have a new "namespaces" option. The option takes a list of namespace IDs. Gadgets that use this option will only load on pages in the given namespaces.

Future changes

• New variables will be added to AbuseFilter: global_account_groups and global_account_editcount. They are available only when an account is being created. You can use them to prevent blocking automatic creation of accounts when users with many edits elsewhere visit your wiki for the first time. [6][7]

@Micky Maverick: Welcome to Wikipedia. I assume you mean User:Micky Maverick/sandbox. It isn't ready for mainspace right now. Start with adding reliable sources (i.e. references) which back up what the article says. Following that you can use the WP:AFC process to submit your article. what if nobody ever thought of it earlier or it wasn't published earlier? so I don't have any sources about the topic. all the sources for now is me.. is it possible that it goes to the mainspace when ready and then editors edit this to an appropriate version or give me feedback if it's okay or not okay to think like this? Wikipedia, in general, frowns upon original research. All facts in the 'pedia are backed up by other sources. If someone published something in mainspace, then per WP:BURDEN, other editors are allowed to remove material that isn't backed up by third-party sources. In this case, i think that your topic overlaps a lot with Facial nerve paralysis. You should fix any issues that you see in that article and add anything that you feel is missing, if you are able to back it up with sources. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 08:06, 1 October 2023 (UTC)

So the story is, Yesterday, when I was at the studio at night, I was very late. I had to come home at least half an before. So I was very worried about it that, "I'm so late, our doorman might shut all the gates off and then I won't be able to enter and I might have to spend the whole night on the road starving" I was very tensed in my brain and at that time, my brother was very excited about our new song that was going to be released soon and he was smiling and talking about how feels but I wasn't able to smile back naturally or respond to that. I kind of felt stuck that I want to smile but I could not. I've felt this kind of paralyzed in my life many times but somehow I forgot about this.... It could be something minor/ignorable that you'll laugh about later, OR it could be something that if not taken care of right now, might turn into a much bigger issue. In its current state, it isn't going to be kept as a Wikipedia mainspace article. You'll have to find some scientific/medical discussion about this. Before that, you might have to find out what the scientists and/or doctors are actually calling this. Looking at the most recent database report, I'm listed at having 117 article reviews in the past month while Skynxnex had only 76 - is there something about the award I'm missing? For the past couple of months, I've been basing this award on a weighted point system which includes redirects (where redirect reviews are counted as one-fourth of an article review, just like in the latest Backlog drive). The query for new reviewers in September is here. That said, it looks like I didn't update Wikipedia:New pages patrol/Awards#For articles. Given that you might have been aiming for the award based on that info, I think you should get the award. I don't think it is right to penalize either you or Skynxnex for this, and believe that it is best if I give you both the award for September. I'll rectify the pages where the information is outdated. Sorry about this, and thanks for doing so many article reviews in September. • There is a new user preference for "Always enable safe mode". This setting will make pages load without including any on-wiki JavaScript or on-wiki stylesheet pages. It can be useful for debugging broken JavaScript gadgets. [8]
• Gadget definitions now have a new "contentModels" option. The option takes a list of page content models, like wikitext or css. Gadgets that use this option will only load on pages with the given content models.

I checked with a fellow editor (who knows more about copyright than me), and their reading was that it depends on how much the original image is changed. Bikramganj Assembly constituency

This is different from Bikram Assembly constituency of Patna region. This is a state assembly constituency of Bihar which is not in existence now. It ceased to exist after delimitation. It was located in Rohtas district. If you get time please create it with the list of MLAs. A Lok Sabha constituency within similar name also exists. Constituency lists

I noticed you've recreated List of constituencies of the Bhutan National Assembly. I had created the list a few years ago but merged it to the main National Assembly (Bhutan) because there isn't really any reason to have separate lists when it can suffice in the main article. • The Structured Content team, as part of its project of improving UploadWizard on Commons, made some UX improvements to the upload step of choosing own vs not own work (T347590), as well as to the licensing step for own work (T347756).
• The Design Systems team has released version 1.0.0 of Codex, the new design system for Wikimedia. See the full announcement about the release of Codex 1.0.0.

Changes later this week

• The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 31 October. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 1 November. It will be on all wikis from 2 November (calendar).
• Listings on category pages are sorted on each wiki for that language using a library. For a brief period on 2 November, changes to categories will not be sorted correctly for many languages. This is because the developers are upgrading to a new version of the library. They will then use a script to fix the existing categories. This will take a few hours or a few days depending on how big the wiki is. You can read more. [15][16]
• Starting November 1, the impact module (Special:Impact) will be upgraded by the Growth team. The new impact module shows newcomers more data regarding their impact on the wiki. It was tested by a few wikis during the last few months. [17]

Future changes

• There is a proposed plan for re-enabling the Graph Extension. You can help by reviewing this proposal and sharing what you think about it.
• The WMF is working on making it possible for administrators to edit MediaWiki configuration directly. This is similar to previous work on Special:EditGrowthConfig. A technical RfC is running until November 08, where you can provide feedback.

November Articles for creation backlog drive

Hello MPGuy2824:

WikiProject Articles for creation is holding a month long Backlog Drive!
The goal of this drive is to reduce the backlog of unreviewed drafts to less than 2 months outstanding reviews from the current 4+ months. Bonus points will be given for reviewing drafts that have been waiting more than 30 days. The drive is running from 1 November 2023 through 30 November 2023.

You may find Category:AfC pending submissions by age or other categories and sorting helpful.

Barnstars will be given out as awards at the end of the drive.

Recent changes

• In the Vector 2022 skin, the default font-size of a number of navigational elements (tagline, tools menu, navigational links, and more) has been increased slightly to match the font size used in page content. [18]

Problems

• Last week, there was a problem displaying some recent edits on a few wikis, for 1-6 hours. The edits were saved but not immediately shown. This was due to a database problem. [19]

Changes later this week

• The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 7 November. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 8 November. It will be on all wikis from 9 November (calendar).
• The Growth team will reassign newcomers from former mentors to the currently active mentors. They have also changed the notification language to be more user-friendly. [20][21]

Now, to your questions: It is usually considered good wiki-etiquette to add a link to the page in question. In this case, since you've recently started editing, I was able to easily find your contribution to Chattanooga High School Center for Creative Arts. I agree with you that the page is quite promotional and has unnecessary detail for an encyclopedia page, and your edit reduced some of it. • From your last name it looks like you have a conflict of interest with the artist in question. There is a conversation that someone started on your talk page regarding this. Please read through it and follow the instructions to declare your conflict of interest (or lack of the same)
• The draft still has promotional (and other) issues. I'll try to remove more of the promotional content.
• The Articles for Creation wikiproject is currently running a backlog drive. If you submit the article now, it wouldn't take too long for someone to review it.

I've improved the formatting of the article. I think that it still requires more reliable sources that talk about the subject in depth. In particular, the various claims in the biography and technique sections require verifiable sources. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 03:53, 7 November 2023 (UTC)

The technique resources are represented in the book which is for sale in Georgian and Dutch bookshops. There is no online version of the book so I don't know how to add it to the resources.

There also are couple videos, interviews with the artist, where he is describing technics but they are also all in Georgian language.

@Anigagiladze: It is totally ok to add a book which isn't available online. See Help:Referencing for beginners. • Four new wikis have been created:
  • a Wikipedia in Moroccan Amazigh (w:zgh:) [22]
  • a Wikipedia in Dagaare (w:dga:) [23]
  • a Wikipedia in Toba Batak (w:bbc:) [24]
  • a Wikiquote in Banjar (q:bjn:) [25]

Problems

• Last week, users who previously visited Meta-Wiki or Wikimedia Commons and then became logged out on those wikis could not log in again. The problem is now resolved. [26]
• Last week, some pop-up dialogs and menus were shown with the wrong font size. The problem is now resolved. [27]

Changes later this week

• The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 14 November. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 15 November. It will be on all wikis from 16 November (calendar).

Future changes

• Reference Previews are coming to many wikis as a default feature. They are popups for references, similar to the PagePreviews feature. You can opt out of seeing them. If you are using the gadgets Reference Tooltips or Navigation Popups, you won’t see Reference Previews. Deployment is planned for November 22, 2023.
• Canary (also known as heartbeat) events will be produced into Wikimedia event streams from December 11. Streams users are advised to filter out these events, by discarding all events where meta.domain == "canary". Updates to Pywikibot or wikimedia-streams will discard these events by default. [28]

Haryana Assembly Past Elections and Former / Renamed Constituencies

Hi, MPGuy2824I'm seeking your support. I've noticed that some constituencies from Haryana's Past Assembly Elections are not available on Wikipedia. I'm considering whether to create new entries for these constituencies or add information to existing entries related to current constituencies. What do you suggest?
