My concern about your username (Namey Design Studios)
[edit]Hello, Namey Design Studios, and thank you for contributing to Wikipedia!
I hope not to seem unfriendly or make you feel unwelcome, but I noticed your username, and am concerned that it might not meet Wikipedia's username policy. After you look over that policy, could we discuss that concern here?
It is too similar to the company name Namey Design Studios
I'd appreciate learning your own views, for instance your reasons for wanting this particular name, and what alternative username you might accept that avoids raising this concern.
You have several options freely available to you:
- If you can relieve my concern through discussing it here, I can stop worrying about it.
- If the two of us can't agree here, we can ask for help through Wikipedia's dispute resolution process, such as asking for a "third opinion", or requesting comments from other Wikipedians. Admins usually abide by agreements reached through this process.
- If you decide to just go ahead and change your username, it is possible for you to keep your present contributions history under the new username: simply request a new name here following the guidelines on that page, rather than creating a whole new account.
Let me reassure you that my writing here means I don't think your username is grossly, blatantly, or obviously inappropriate; such names get reported straight to Wikipedia:Administrator_intervention_against_vandalism (WP:AIV), or blocked on sight. This is more a case where opinions might differ, and it would be good to reach some consensus — either here or at WP:RFC/NAME. So I look forward to a friendly discussion, and to enjoying your continued participation on Wikipedia. Thank you again! -- RyanPostlethwaiteSee the mess I've created or let's have banter 15:12, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
Hi Ryan,
Not sure what to say - I am Namey Design Studios - it is my own company and I take all my photographs which I contribute to Wikipedia under that name. I'd prefer to be know through my professional association rather than my personal name. I honestly could care less what it is and am not trying to promote anything with it - so if you have beef with it then I'm not opposed to changing it. --Namey Design Studios 19:31, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for the reply, the problem with having your company name as your username is that company names are banned by WP:U, the policy on what is acceptable for a username. You could request your username to be changed at WP:CHU, which would allow you to keep your contributions, or you could simply just create a new username as you haven't got loads and loads of edits to take with you. I'd also be more than happy to list your name at WP:RFCN to get a bigger feeling fromthe community before we do anything at all? Its upto you, regards RyanPostlethwaiteSee the mess I've created or let's have banter 19:41, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
Got it - I just changed my name to (tanamey) so that should do it. Now, maybe you can help me since I was cooperative :-) I loaded up a number of photos I took and listed them as copyright protected except for educational purposes. I received a message sayint that my images would most likely be deleted since I put a © restruction on it. It suggested I use no restructions, and now I see that anyone can use my images for private or commercial use. I do not want people to take my images and sell them or use them for anything other than educational uses. Is there a way to go back and edit them? They are all under Mansfield Plantation and winnowing barn. Thanks, Ryan! --Tanamey 17:15, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
