Putumayo World Music was established in 1993 to introduce people to the music of the world's cultures. The label grew out of Putumayo clothing company, founded by Dan Storper in 1975 and sold in 1997. Biography
Andrea Berg was one of the biggest-selling German pop divas of her generation, winning three consecutive ECHO awards for her commercial prowess. Born January 28, 1966, in Krefeld, Berg was discovered in 1992 by producer/svengali Eugen Römer, who ushered her into the studio within a week of signing. Her debut LP, Du Bist Frei, quickly followed, and while sales were poor, the follow-up, Gefühle, proved a massive hit, led by the smash single "Die Gefühle Haben Schweigepflicht." The 1997 release Träume Lügen Nicht solidified Berg's chart success, and after a hiatus heralded by the impending birth of her first child, she resurfaced in 1999 with Weil Ich Verliebt Bin. Two years later Berg issued her first Best Of collection, a blockbuster hit that spent more than four consecutive years on the German charts and earned her the first of her ECHO prizes. Agnaldo Rayol has had much success since 1946 as a romantic singer, radio and TV actor, and show host. More recently in 1998, he had a national hit singing the theme song of soap opera Terra Nostra (TV Globo), "Tormento d'Amore," in Italian. Among his career hits are "Acorrentados (Encandenados)," "O Amor É Tudo (Love Is All)," "Livre (Born Free)," and "Ave Maria" (Gounod). He recorded more than 21 LPs and CDs from 1958 to 1998.
At age eight, he opened as a singer at the Rádio Nacional (Rio). After moving with his family to Natal RN, he continued to perform in radios as an actor and singer. Returning to Rio in 1951, he participated in the film Maior Que O Ódio. In 1956, he accompanied Leny Eversong in a Northeastern tour and was hired by Rádio Tupi upon his return. After several albums recorded for Copacabana, he had a hit in 1964 with "Acorrentados" (Carlos Briz, version by Miranda/Genival Neto). He had another hit in the next year with another version, "O Princípio E O Fim" (Alain Barrière, version by Nazareno de Brito). Between 1966 and 1968, he presented the Corte-Rayol Show, at TV Record (São Paulo SP), with Renato Corte Real. Trying to catch on with the Beatles' wave, he participated in the Jovem Guarda show and was the main character of the film Agnaldo, Perigo À Vista. In 1981, he won the International Song Festival (Uruguay). Roman-born Alex Britti displayed a talent for music from a young age. He began playing guitar in the mid-'70s at the age of eight. By his late teens Britti had already formed and begun performing with his own trio. Playing Rome's busy club circuit, Britti became something of a local sensation, performing at important local festivals and getting his feet wet sitting in with international stars like Louisiana Red when the opportunity arose. Britti developed such a good reputation that he started getting calls to back up artists like Buddy Miles and Billy Preston when they toured through Italy. In 1990, at the age of 22, Britti was picked up by Rosa King for a European tour. The regularity of touring life enabled Britti to begin composing his own Italian material. His self-titled debut CD (1992) introduced Italian audiences to Britti as a singer/songwriter. Over the course of the next few years a number of avenues opened up to the young artist, including live performances (Primo Maggio in 1994 and 1995), TV appearances (Generazione X, 1995), and even film scoring (Uomini Senza Donne in 1995 and Stressati in 1996). The release of singles such as "Quello Che Voglio" and "Solo una Volta" primed Italian audiences for Britti's breakthrough success at the Sanremo Festival in 1999, where he took first place in the New Singer category. His second record, La Vasca, was published in 2000, selling more than a million copies. For more than 25 years, Enzo Ghinazzi, aka Pupo, has been making an impact upon the world of pop music. His first single, "Ti Sorivero," came out in 1975 and began a path to worldwide success that would lead to several hit albums and a host of awards including the Gondola D'Oro in 1981 for the album Piu Di Prima.
His world tours have taken him to a number of well-known venues including Royal Albert Hall, Madison Square Garden, the Maple Garden in Toronto, and Paris' L'Olympia. His 1986 tour of the former Soviet Union stopped at historic theaters in Tallin, Leningrad, and Moscow, and helped build a fan base that lingers to this day.
In 1989 he turned his attention to television, serving as the host of Italy's most-watched Sunday program, Domenica In. By 1991 he was back in the studio and on the road again, recording Canada's Wonderland and supporting it with a major Canadian tour. He then went on hiatus until 1995 when he entered the studio to record Pupo 1996. The hit singles "Senza Fortuna" and "La Notte" helped put him back in the spotlight.
In 1997, Pupo put down roots in Italy and became a regular guest on the TV program Va Ora In Onda. In 1998 he released Tornero, with a mixture of nine new songs and four classics with new recordings and arrangements. ~ Stacia Proefrock, All Music Guide
BB Chung King & The Buddaheads
BB Chung King & The Buddaheads are back on the LA scene after returning from a tour of Asia and the U.S. Taking a year and a half off, Alan Mirikitani (aka BB Chung King) established his own 24 track recording studio "Dawghouse Studios" in Burbank California.
BB's music is a mix of roots rock with a blues base. BB has always claimed blues to be his first love, but comes from a generation that loves to rock. Their first CD "Blues Had A Baby", was released in 1994 on RCA/BMB and received generous support from radio fans. If you have to categorize the music, it is somewhere between newer artists Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Blues Travelers. But make no mistake, BB Chung King & The Buddaheads are the original LA version!
BB keeps quite busy with the Buddaheads, but also finds time to write, record and produce music for other artists. BB has written songs for blues legends such as Lonnie Brooks, Tinsley Ellis and recently helped Ruth Brown receive a Grammy for her performance of his song "Too Little, Too Late". Then he produced, wrote, engineered and played on B.J. Sharp's Grammy nominated CD "Never Felt No Blues". Her CD reached number 4 in the charts in Europe, without being issued there!
You can also hear the Buddaheads paying tribute to Lowell George. Together with Eddie Money, they perform the title track to the tribute album titled "Rock and Roll Doctor" (a song which appears as a bonus track on the Buddaheads "Live Japan" CD).
"Play Hard", the third full length album, was released in Japan by Kiagan Records. Here in the US, the band is negotiating a new contract and distribution deal. To please the demand of the rest of their fans around the world, they have added some recent songs and the now re-titled, selfmanufactured limited edition CD "In The Mirror", is available and will no doubt become a collectors item.

It is the end of the 60s, and Amedeo Minghi records “Alla fine”, a record very much sought after today. In 1976 his first hit, “L'immenso”, becomes one of the 70s'greatest. There are other subsequent successes and, in 1983, he composes true milestones such as "1950", "St. Michel", "Quando l'estate verrà", "Sognami", "Emanuela e io", "Cuore di pace", "Ladri di sole", followed by “Serenata” e "Le nuvole e la rosa". In April 1989, he chooses the theater “Piccolo Eliseo” in Rome for a performance where he alternates songs at the piano with the recital of monologues. The recital “FORSE SI MUSICALE” is a huge success: “Vita mia", "Canzoni", "Vattene amore", (the last two written for Mietta and produced by Amedeo). It is followed by "Nené", the concert at “S. MARIA IN TRASTEVERE” (40.000 people), the concert at “Teatro Sistina” in Rome, and the very successful concert of “I RICORDI DEL CUORE” at the “Stadio Olimpico”. The popular success of the latter is demonstrated by the large sale of a double Home Video. At the same time, Amedeo is also working intensely as a composer of sound tracks (8 TV fictions and “EDERA”, the first TV drama series screen produced by Fininvest). Of particular importance are the sound tracks composed for the five series of "Fantaghirò" interpreted by Alessandra Martinez and distributed in 78 nations under the title of "The Cave of the Golden Rose". The character of of the little princess Fantaghirò inspires one of the most appreciated recitals of Amedeo Minghi: "Fantaghirò & Fantaghirò". In the second half of the 90s there are other major works such as "Come due soli in cielo" and "Cantare è d'amore" which is met with overwhelming success in South America. Minghi holds three sold-out concerts in Sao Paulo, where the publication of two albums, one of which is an anthology, prove to be very successful. More than 250.000 copies are sold. Amedeo greets the end of the second millennium with “UN UOMO VENUTO DA LONTANO” dedicated to Pope John Paul II and performed in his presence in the “aula PAOLO VI”. The video of the performance is included in Amedeo's now famous album “DECENNI”. This masterpiece is followed by "GERUSALEMME", a piece commissioned by the Vatican on the occasion of the 'Jubilee 2000', and contained in the double CD “Minghi Studio Collection”. Amedeo participates in the Sanremo Song Festival of 2000 singing "Futuro come te" with Mariella Nava, subsequently, he publishes his 20th album, “ANITA”, a future musical that will narrate the greatest Italian love story: that of ANITA and GIUSEPPE GARIBALDI which will also become a "fiction" for "Rai 1". Minghi has already collaborated with Massimo De Rita e Mario Falcone on its subject-matter and dramatization. It will be published by “Publispei” (of Carlo Bixio) e “ Good Time” (by Gabriella Bontempo). Minghi also composes and sings the new musical theme for the TV drama series “Terra Nostra 2- La Speranza”. In 2002, he publishes his 21st album "L'altra faccia della luna". This album, and particularly the song "Un uomo venuto da lontano", leeds to a series of concerts in 2003 under the auspices of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and with the collaboration of the "Istituto Italiano di cultura". Amedeo performs in South America (Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo - Cordoba e Buenos Aires), in Europe (Cracow, Strasbourg, Bucharest, Madrid, Rome) and in JERUSALEM. He closes this series of performances on December 19, 2003 with a concert at the “Palalottomatica" transmitted live by satellite. Minghi publishes, as part of a collection, his song "Cosí sei Tu" which he sang the previous year in a duet with the Muscovite singer Diana GurzKaya at the Kremlin Theater in Moscow. He also participates, as a composer, in Bocelli's new album "Andrea" by contributing the song "Per Noi". On January 21st, 2005, AMEDEO MINGHI's new album entitled "SU DI ME" is released, and on March 21st, Minghi begins his Theater Tour in his favorite form, a recital, at the "Teatro Nuovo" in Milan. He participates with Lino Banfi in a project for “UNICEF” which later results in the production of a CD, entitled "Sotto l'ombrellone”. Lino Banfi contributes the lyrics, which Amedeo puts into music. In addition to being the author of the music, in this CD Amedeo also plays the “straight man” for the great comedian from Puglie. Together, they perform light heartedly in ten new songs successfully describing in amusing details the behavior of Italians caught in curious situations while vacationing at the beach. 2006, in celebration of Amedeo's CAREER OF 40 YEARS IN MUSIC, EMI publishes (April, 28) the Amedeo Minghi's “PLATINUM COLLECTION”, consisting of 3 CDs, containing 48 hits plus the new song "ED ALTRE STORIE". This collection underlines Amedeo's artistic road which is also the subject of his first autobiographical book “L'ASCOLTERANNO GLI AMERICANI”, published by Rai Eri and distributed by Mondadori, written in the first person and recounting his artistic life lived through the changes of two whole generations. Amedeo Minghi affirms his sensitivity, which extends beyond the arts, by supporting the cause of “All together, all the colors” , a non-profit organization that promotes dialogue among different cultures and religions. He lends his active support by performing “Un uomo venuto da lontano” at various conferences in the presence of international political, social, and religious delegations, institutional delegations, and the highiest dignitaries of the Italian government. He continues his efforts by accepting an invitation from Claudio Baglioni to participate with him in “O Scia”, an event held in Lampedusa on the “Guitgia” beach for the main purpose of raising awareness of the plight of clandestine immigrants. To help in this endeavor, Amedeo performs some of his major hits and, on the notes of “1950” and “Amore bello”, he joins Baglioni in a duet. After the success gained by his participation in activities promoting cultural understanding and awareness for the plight of others, Amedeo Minghi is invited by the “Columbus Citizens Foundation” in New York to participate in the “Columbus Day Parade, 2006” as a representative “ Italian artist”, and to perform in front of the largest Italian community abroad under the sponsorship of the Campania and Lombardy regions. The Collection, the book and other projects in the making, give us a sense of how many faceted this “melodist”, who continues to love his profession in music, truly is. The composer singer and flutist Tamara Obrovac from the Croatian city of Pula is one of the most impressive artists on the Croatian music scene, and in the past few years she has become very popular due to the influence of the Istrian folk music that has been the creative force of her works. Istria is a beautiful Croatian region, a North Adriatic peninsula, particular for It's musical and dialectal tradition. She writes lyrics in a local dialect and sings in an ancient dialect which is not spoken any more - the Istriotic dialect.
Her international Transhistria Ensemble incorporates elements of Istrian and Mediterranean national music, jazz, and many elements of modern music skilfully and naturally, "the warm bowed and stringed instruments played by the excellent musicians from her current Transhistria Ensemble make up genuine musical mohair, warming and softening even the chilliest of souls." In addition to here international concert activities she composes for theatre performances, cartoons, movies, musicals, etc. And she is also a member of the international Balkan winds ensemble. Her music, completely original and autochthonous, goes beyond time and geographical boundaries, thus becoming a universal artistic message, establishing Tamara Obrovac as an exceptional artist who managed to create her own unique musical expression.

One who gets to know Gino Federici can only describe the kaleidoscopic events in his life with one constant: born to sing; as Paul Van Zante describes " …with soul that just cuts through all the barriers that other singers just cannot break. That's magic. So few have this God given gift."
Born and raised in Torino, Italy, and a naturalized American, he finds his true calling at 14 after performing in front of a packed theater during an impromptu call from the show’s MC seeking new talent for a nightly price competition.
This youngster, in shorts, singing Granada with a 15 piece orchestra with a voice honed by years of church singing, brings down the house. That applause would reverberate in his heart forever and seal his fate.

The singing is what has allowed him to overcome the loss of two wives to cancer. They believed in him and his success is primarily due to Glenda, his first wife, who saw the flame burning inside the pilot and pushed him to "follow your heart."

Dimitris Panopoulos and Eva Tselidou make up the duo of Omgega Vibes. Their first single was "The Heart And The Soul", in 1995.
The release of their cd album "Renaissance", the following year, established Omega Vibes in Greece and across Europe and Asia. The album sold over 30.000 copies.
Their next release, "Diaspora" (1999), had been referred to as "boundless music". The music is atmospheric with drum n bass but the music stays true to the roots of Greek and Balcanic tradition. Both cds have been released at 17 territories of Europe and Asia, with sales more than 60.000 copies. Omega Vibes have played live at Lycabbetus Hill in Athens with Bjork and also have performed with David Bowie and Lou Reed. They have also in numerous festivals across Europe and in two concerts with French artist Wes as well as a a series of concerts in clubs in Greece.
Their latest album Day By Day was released in June 2002, and took two years to complete. Lavrentis Mahairitsas also participates on the title track.
