Hi, and welcome. May I suggest that most of the pages related to Geography Markup Language that you're creating would be better as subsections of that page? If you look around at some of our other pages, you'll see that well-developed pages are much longer than the existing Geography Markup Language page. I've already merged GML Information Sources and made it redirect to the parent as an example. Also, the GML FAQ for RSS Geeks and others isn't really written in the style of an encyclopedia article - we don't usually do FAQs here. I'd suggest rewriting it into a more descriptive style, and making it part of the main page. Thanks for your contributions. CDC (talk) 21:53, 3 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

GML profiles: Style problems and technical nature[edit]

Hi Rlake3! Thanks for your contributions thus far, they are appreciated. I have two concerns about GML profiles, however.

  • It doesn't read like an encyclopedic article, and does not comply with many Wikipedia style guidlines. I would suggest reading Wikipedia:Manual of style before writing any new articles. Anything you can do to make [[GML profiles] adhere to the style guidlines would help as well.
  • GML profiles is also very difficult to understand for a lay reader. The goal of Wikipedia is to host articles that can be read and understood by any English-proficient reader.

Thanks for your time. If you've got questions, click on the T after my name and leave a message on my talk page. --Fernando Rizo T/C 23:35, 3 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I've gone through your contributions, and it looks like all of your other GML sub-articles need the same treatment. Don't let that get you down; it's great that you're contributing, we just need to shoehorn those contributions into the Wikipedia format. Drop me a line if I can help. --Fernando Rizo T/C 23:47, 3 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I can certainly appreciate what you're trying to do. Other editors may attempt to make them less technical for you, or consolidate them into the main GML article. I'm at the very least going to make some style modifications so that they more closely mirror Wikipedia article format. See you around the Wiki. Fernando Rizo T/C 01:21, 4 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
