====Hello, Saucycountrygirl: You are an expert about knives, but I want to tell you that I know the true story about James Bowie and his two famous knives. My favorite saying at this time is that there has been a fantastic mountain of nonsense written about James Bowie and his knives. I have been trying to get my true bowie knife story into Wikipedia, but I have been told that my article is not acceptable among all of the false stories they have collected from magazine articles (including the four knife magazines--BLADE, etc.) and people who have not done the research I have. I have proposed some corrections, but I do not know that they will be accepted. Some people just do not want to hear the truth, and if they read it, some will still not believe it, for people will believe what they want to believe. Just this morning I sent an old newspaper article to Wikipedia through one of their editors, but I do not expect any constructive results.

    When Hollywood produced the movie titled "The Iron Mistress," they brain-washed the American Public that their picture of their The Iron Mistress (the knife) was what James Bowie's big clip-point knife looked like and that James Black made it.  Nothing is farther from the truth.
    The knife was made by an old gunmaker, John N. Sowell, in Gonzales, Texas.  And if you want to see what the original bowie knife possibly looked ike, find a copy of the "Dallas Morning News," Dallas, Texas, Saturday, December 28, 2002, III, Page 31A 9.

You will see a picture of Sam Houston's bowie knife. The knife authenticity has been verified and some rich Dallas business man bought it for more than $250,000, I believe, or somewhere around that.

    James Bowie did not invent the clip-point knife; the Europeans brought that ancient style to America and Boie merely copied it.  When Bowie and ten other men were in a terrible fight with more than 100 Indianns in November of 1831, he cut his hand on his bucher knife, the knife his brother Rezin made for him.  That cut hand made Bowie make a wood pattern for the kind of knife he wanted, and he took it to Mr. Sowell, who made t he knife.  That is not half of the true story of the bowie knife.  But remember the name John N. Sowell and don't let anyone tell you that you don't know what you are talking about.
