[edit] Invitation to events: bot, template, and Gadget makers wanted

I thought you might want to know about some upcoming events where you can learn more about MediaWiki customization and development, extending functionality with JavaScript, the future of ResourceLoader and Gadgets, the new Lua templating system, how to best use the web API for bots, and various upcoming features and changes. We'd love to have power users, bot maintainers and writers, and template makers at these events so we can all learn from each other and chat about what needs doing.

Check out the Chennai event in March, the Berlin hackathon in June, the developers' days preceding Wikimania in July in Washington, DC, or any other of our events.

Best wishes! - Sumana Harihareswara, Wikimedia Foundation's Volunteer Development Coordinator. Please reply on my talk page, here or at mediawiki.org. Sumanah (talk) 15:36, 16 February 2012 (UTC)

[edit] GOCE March copy edit drive

Invitation from the Guild of Copy Editors
Writing Magnifying.PNG

The Guild of Copy Editors invites you to participate in their March 2012 Backlog elimination drive, a month-long effort to reduce the size of the copy edit backlog. The drive begins on March 1 at 00:00 (UTC) and ends on March 31 at 23:59 (UTC). Our goal for the drive will be to eliminate the remaining 2010 articles from the queue. Barnstars will be awarded to anyone who copy edits more than 4,000 words, and special awards will be given to the top 5 in the following categories: "Number of articles", "Number of words", and "Number of articles of over 5,000 words". We hope to see you there! – Your drive coordinators: Dank, Diannaa, Stfg, and Coordinator emeritus SMasters. 19:52, 20 February 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Peer review request, also will you be uploading "bold I be" to the Commons?

Hi, would you mind peer reviewing Free Culture (book), please? Also, will you be uploading your bold i be song to the Commons? Thanks. :) Banaticus (talk) 22:38, 27 February 2012 (UTC)

A thousand apologies, but I've no time for peer reviews at the moment. As for "bold i be", it's in the PD, so people can put it in the Commons if they wish. (I never saw a reason to do so myself.) Good luck! Scartol • Tok 02:06, 28 February 2012 (UTC)
I'm sorry, I can't take your word on it, because you uploaded it to a third party website and I can't verify that you are actually the person who uploaded it or the site owner or whatever. Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials#Granting us permission to copy material already online says that you can either post a Creative Commons Zero Waiver 1.0 (CC0) statement on the website where it's hosted, or upload it to the Commons yourself and send an email (ideally using the language from the template at Wikipedia:Declaration of consent for all enquiries) 1) from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org; 2) then upload the file to Wikimedia Commons and place {{OTRS pending}} on the file page. 3) Someone will reply to your email, indicating whether the content and your license is acceptable and update the page to indicate that the confirmation of the license has been received.
Also, on a completely unrelated note, wouldn't the white stones in the mostly top-right corner area in this image be removed? They're completely enclosed by black stones and have no eyes (they do touch a white area that has an enclosed open space, but only diagonally). Banaticus (talk) 02:34, 28 February 2012 (UTC)
Perhaps I'll do one of those things at some point in the future. As for the Go image, that is presumably a depiction of a game that has had its stones rearranged in order to count them more easily. The white group in question presumably had eyes, which were filled in with captured stones once the game ended. Scartol • Tok 22:50, 28 February 2012 (UTC)
