Serial killer, removing sourced material, and welcome to Wikipedia[edit]

Hello, Strde. I reverted your edit to the Serial article, because it is sourced and has been extensively discussed on the talk page (in one discussion that is still openly there, and one which is archived), where it also achieved WP:Consensus for being there. So far, that consensus has not been overturned. You may take your concerns to the talk page as well, of course. But removing sourced material because you don't like it is not how Wikipedia works. You must provide WP:Reliable sources for your argument or make convincing enough statements for them. The "white male" bit can qualified if you have the sources. But if you continue to remove this information or engage in edit warring over it, you will be reported. I realize that you are still fairly new to editing Wikipedia, so to help familiarize you with it, here is a list:

  1. Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not, which summarizes what belongs in Wikipedia and what does not;
  2. Wikipedia:Neutral point of view, which describes Wikipedia's mandatory core approach to neutral, unbiased article-writing;
  3. Wikipedia:No original research, which prohibits the use of Wikipedia to publish personal views and original research of editors and defines Wikipedia's role as an encyclopedia of existing recognized knowledge;
  4. Wikipedia:Verifiability, which explains that it must be possible for readers to verify all content against credible external sources (following the guidance in the Wikipedia:Risk disclaimer that is linked-to at the bottom of every article);
  5. Wikipedia:Reliable sources, which explains what factors determine whether a source is acceptable;
  6. Wikipedia:Citing sources, which describes the manner of citing sources so that readers can verify content for themselves; and
  7. Wikipedia:Manual of Style, which offers a style guide—in general editors tend to acquire knowledge of appropriate writing styles and detailed formatting over time.

These are often abbreviated to WP:NOT, WP:NPOV, WP:NOR, WP:V, WP:RS, WP:CITE, and WP:MOS respectively.

It is apparent from your contributions that you already know how to sign your name -- typing for tildes (~~~~) -- so take care, and welcome to Wikipedia. Flyer22 (talk) 16:39, 12 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, again, Strde. Thank you for providing a source this time for your additions. The way you formatted the additions was unencyclopedic, however, per WP:Manual of Style, and was too much of a WP:COPYVIO issue, which is why you were initially reverted by another editor. We also do not need a Myths section to address your concerns. Your additions are more so tackling stereotypes or misconceptions about the characteristics of serial killers. Therefore, I added your additions in a more appropriate way...to the Characteristics section (seen in these links: [1][2][3][4]).
Again, thank you for listening, and for providing a source this time. Flyer22 (talk) 16:41, 2 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Strde, I felt you'd like to know that we made the information on whether or not serial killers are typically white a lot clearer and even more neutral. Flyer22 (talk) 20:26, 9 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
