Pinterest[edit]

Claiming that Pinterest infringes copyrights by allowing theft of content and making it difficult to search for images on Google are true findings. I understand that your desire is to keep a page on Pinterest with only positive information, but this is not impartial, correct, beneficial to the community and much less true. Hey, Twassman, I capitalized Black intentionally when I created the article -- that's been discussed at MOS, it's at this time not something we change to, but it's also not something we change from either, if you see what I mean. Most US-based reliable sources are changing to capitalizing it, and you'll likely see it more and more often in newer articles here. —valereee (talk) 12:39, 5 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Valereee: My apologies! Would this be for uniformity with more location-based labels (such as Asian, European, Hispanic)? (I believed it correct to capitalise those as they were formed from a proper noun, a place, while "black" and "white" were based on colours, common nouns, and hence should not be capitalised.) Twassman, no apology needed! It's not for uniformity, just for following what reliable sources are doing. Many (maybe most) of the most-reliable sources have started using Black rather than black when describing a person. Most aren't using White yet, though a few are. @Valereee: I've just read through this discussion on the topic; it seems that there is not much consensus (both are accepted), but that there is some consensus to not use them inconsistently. This seems to be under discussion at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Capital letters § Discussion about capitalisation of Black (people), but there is still not much consensus on exactly what to do. In this situation, I do believe that it should be a both-or-neither situation. This has been brought up on the talk page here by an IP, and while I disagree that it impl[ies] that … "white" is inferior, it does feel rather biased to only capitalise one. — Twassman | Talk | Contribs 21:24, 5 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Twassman, there's more recent discussion here. You could bring it up again at MOS, IMO it's probably too soon. The both-or-neither argument probably isn't as compelling to most editors as the what-reliable-sources-are-doing argument, but there are exceptions. That is, you can argue that the sources should be consistent, but Wikipedia cares more about what the sources are doing than we do about our editors' assessment of the sources' internal consistency. In six months or a year or so, we may see more sources capitalizing White, and maybe Brown. Right now many (maybe most) of the most-reliable are capitalizing Black, fewer White, probably fewer still Brown, and IMO another RfC this soon is going to just say we can't say yet. Plus people get annoyed when discussions get reopened this soon. :) —valereee (talk) 21:44, 5 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Copyrighted image c:File:Elemental4Logo.jpg[edit]

So, I uploaded the image becuase the use of low-resolution images is allowed, I didn’t put a reason becuase I didn’t know specifically what counted as “low-resolution” looking back it would’ve been better to put the “other” option. @WikiMakersOfOurTime: Fair use images are allowed on the English Wikipedia, but not on Wikipedia Commons (see Commons' fair use policy), where you uploaded the image to.
