Wolf maps[edit]

The wolf distribution maps are impressive, but does Wikipedia have the right to use them? See Wikipedia:Copyrights. --Yath 21:28, 2 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, I haven't copyrighted them.--Tommyknocker 21:32, 2 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I recommend that you identify the author on the image page and add {{PD}} (if indeed public domain is your intention) (see Wikipedia:Image copyright tags). --Yath 21:38, 2 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry if I didn't make it clear, but I'm the author. Do I still need to add {{PD}}? If so how exactly do I go about that? Apologies, evidently I don't have much experience on this website.
Looks like I mentioned the wrong template. My mistake. Click on the image, then on its edit tab, and put {{PD-self}}. That's all there is to it. --Yath 21:59, 2 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, done, thanks very much.

Nice Map! Any tips for someone who would also like to produce maps? Thanks. Bjrobinson 02:11, 11 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks :) Well I mainly created them out of interest, and while I've refined them loads they are my first. I guess just make sure the sources are as accurate and reliable as possible... with animal distributions, maps which show a smaller and fragmented range are the more accurate versions (they don't generalise as much). I used Paintshop Pro for the current versions, but bog standard MS Paint before then, so it can be done whatever you're tools :D Here's an empty one you can use http://img345.imageshack.us/img345/5295/worldmap9vk.gif.--Tommyknocker 22:39, 12 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Tommyknocker, I was just looking at the Wolf Distribution map you made ([1]), and there is an error in it. Ireland is not included as a former wolf habitat, but Wolves did indeed live in Ireland right up until the late middle ages, and indeed this website [2] says the last wolf in Ireland only died in 1773! Indeed Ireland was known to be a major producer of wolf pelts in the late medieval period, and the Irish Wolfhound was bread specifically for hunting wolves. So it would be good if you could alter the map to include Ireland. Thanks.--Hibernian 15:58, 8 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, seems I accidently missed out Ireland when I changed maps. --Tommyknocker 17:44, 8 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Tommyknocker can you please give us some information about the sources, about the data the map is based upon? Sciencia58 (talk) 12:16, 24 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Tiger Distribution[edit]

I see that the map on the Tiger article which you created shows the total tiger range as larger in 1990 than it was in 1900. This is not accurate, so perhaps you should switch the dates around. Other than the mixed-up dates, it is a very well made map, though. Good job on it!

oops thanks for letting me know. --Tommyknocker 13:00, 30 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Jaguar distribution[edit]

Hi TommyK. This is a very extensive paper on the conservation status of the jag with many maps. I also used the IUCN[3]. You'll probably have guessed I just pulled your pic into photoshop and edited, so half the work was already done :). Marskell 23:41, 25 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Komodo dragon distribution[edit]

Is it possible for you to make a distribution map for Komodo dragon? It is one of the aspects of the peer review that I would like to adress. bibliomaniac15 00:39, 24 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sure I'll give it a go. --Tommyknocker 12:52, 24 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Done :) --Tommyknocker 13:46, 25 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

By the way, if any more maps are needed just ask. I know there's a huge of animal articles still without them, but I don't personally know where a good place would be to start. --Tommyknocker 13:48, 25 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
