Speedy deletion nomination of Hoosch[edit]

A tag has been placed on Hoosch requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for web content. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Deleting discussion threads[edit]

Tim, you erased a discussion from your talk page. Another contributor to that thread asked where the discussion went and as I was there when you deleted it, I chimed in to explain. I also explained that I thought the thread was useful in illustrating a situation where Speedy Deletion was recommended, but should not have been. Since arriving on Wikipedia I've spent the majority of my time trying to figure out why some people are so focused on recommending Speedy Deletes which seems to be completely counter to the ethos of this collaboration. The thread wasn't useful in explaining anything. Articles are nominated for speedy deletion all the time; see WP:CSD to understand why. Again, if you had a question to ask about speedy deletion or something else, that's fine. But just chiming in made no sense. You, of 50 or fewer edits, seemed to somehow take interest in another article that I nominated for deletion, and you wanted to make comments on my talk page about how it's "interesting". It isn't. I'm not trying to be rude. Recommending speedy deletion is a valuable process on Wikipedia that allows the encyclopedia to stay encyclopedic. That's not at all counter-intuitive to collaboration. Timneu22, had you taken a moment to look at the references like I did, and like WikiDan61 did, you would have seen they were notable and of good sources. Furthermore, a quick look at the group's website revealed recent noteworthy awards. Finally, as Winner 42 pointed out - the page was marked as Under Construction (a point you never responded to). The fact that I am new here is of great relevance. If you propose that assuming everyone posting here is doing so in Bad Faith is the basic mindset of the community - I think you'd find that runs completely counter to the ethos of WP. I can totally understand clamping down on obvious inappropriate articles - but I can't understand such vehement distrust of decent articles, which - though perhaps Under Construction and in need of some nuturing - are completely valid and in no way inappropriate. Such exclusionary behavior would, in time, greatly damage this project, in my opinion. Having said all that, I'll let it go. But I am glad I have a record of our exchange here, as I hope others might take something useful from it. That is the whole point here - right? Znarky (talk) 13:37, 1 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Are you kidding me? Don't cite policy to me and how to look at references. There was one reference when I tagged the article. One-reference topics can be nominated; I'm sure there's some little boy who caught a big fish in Nowhere, Iowa, and I'm sure that made the local paper, and maybe even a bigger publication. That's not a reference. I do speedy deletion nominations all the time and somehow you, with 50 edits, are going to tell me how to do things? Sometimes speedy nominations are declined; if I'm wrong I'm okay with that. If you're effort here is to say "look, I'm right and you're wrong" well congrats. I have no fear of failure. I nominate hundreds of articles for deletion, and I'm probably wrong 2% of the time. It's just not a big deal. My problem is you had nothing to do with that article so it seemed like you're stalking my edits to chime in to prove a point. Don't preach to me about bad faith (it wasn't) or exclusionary behavior (none to be found). It's just exhausting. If you really want to help, make quality contributions to the encyclopedia, or patrol pages for vandals and other nonsense. That would be appreciated. Timneu22, I believe my involvement in the thread helped highlight that it was incorrectly marked for Speedy Deletion. I'm really glad I was involved in that because it looks to be a good article - one that certainly has a place here. You seem to take pride in the fact that you are very quick to "Speedy Delete". I encourage you to try and have empathy for the fact that a rush to delete may repel good contributors and valuable contributions. I believe there was more than one reference in the cited example - but it was from the Boston Chronicle, that's a big paper. As well, the page was under contruction. Even if you're only wrong 2% - wouldn't it be better to be less hasty, so you don't erase good articles? Znarky (talk) 14:03, 1 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
