Some landmarks include the Nash Point Lighthouse, the last manned lighthouse in Wales, being automatically operated since 1998. Others include Ogmore Castle built by William de Londres, around 1100 and Fonmon Castle near Barry.
There are a number of smaller trails very near the Coast Path, which often take users inland on shorter routes; these include:
Rhossili to Mewslade Bay. This circular walk is in the Ramblers' Association's Top 10 Coastal Walking Routes and is a picturesque walk at the western edge of the Gower Peninsula. The walk is 4.8 kilometres (3 mi) long and is an easy walk, suitable for all, and should take just under 3 hours.[1] A good place to start is the Rhossili car park (private parking fee).
Langland Bay to Caswell Bay. This easy, circular walks covers 3.2 kilometres (2 mi) of terrain and starts (and finishes) at the Langland Bay car park. Grey seals are a common sight and rarer porpoises can be seen as well as basking sharks. On the shore one may find slow worms, common lizards and adders basking in the summer sunshine; however, although common, they are very difficult to spot.[2]
Port Eynon to Oxwich. This 7.25-kilometre (4.5 mi) path meanders through woodland and across open cliffs, passing the 16th-century Oxwich Castle and 13th-century St Illtyd’s Church as highlights along the way. Port Eynon is the southernmost point on Gower.
