October 6[edit]

Arabic from 1772[edit]

Could you decipher and translate what here is written? Obviously, it is the same phrase in five different styles but I could not grasp anything meaningful, just some isolated words.--Lüboslóv Yęzýkin (talk) 13:21, 6 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It says "نسلم و نزيد السلام بمزيد العز والإكرام و نوافج المسك الختام" although I can't really translate it...something about concluding a peace treaty I suppose. Adam Bishop (talk) 14:37, 6 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, you relieved me, I got nearly the same. Though I coudn't decipher بمزيد and فج المسك, some forms are quite unusual: بم looks like some sort of 6 with a dot below, د is more like ل, and the weird ف above ج, and لم is like a unknown stick in س... well, it turned out that having known how to read Arabic without actually knowing the language was not enough for deciphering. If I knew the language I'd certantly recognize those words. And when I tried googling it and had expected some well-known citation and got nothing, I thought I was doing something wrong (obviously, it was not a citation).--Lüboslóv Yęzýkin (talk) 16:42, 6 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
