Wikipedia:Today's featured list proposal/Proposal 4

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This proposal is an attempt to get a List of the Day (LOTD) system off the ground. Prior proposals can be found at Original proposal, Revised proposal, and third proposal. Changing the main page requires overwhelming support. I propose that we run a trial List of the Day that is not committed to the main page and thus can begin with a modest majority and vote on whether the results of the experiment should go to the main page afterwards.

Featured List of the Day would be run underneath the Featured Picture on the main page, in a similar format to the one the appears on the Featured Content page. However, until it receives community consensus to go in the main page, it will be something done on User pages and the featured Content page. Any list that is LOTD during this period will still be allowed to be LOTD again if it has not appeared on the Main page.

Featured List of the Day will be run in a similar fashion to FAOTD. In order to do this, a Featured List Director would be nominated to manage the Featured List of the Day and Promoting Featured Lists. My choices for this position would be:

    • Comment I currently promote a lot of lists and I would be willing to be a director (although I still somewhat oppose lists on the main page), however, I'm going to say right now that I have no desire to be an administrator. -- Scorpion0422 21:59, 11 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

    • Comment some of you may have noticed that two days ago, I surrendered hope of this proposal passing and decided to conduct my own experimental WP:LOTD in my userspace. It will be more widely announced on my userspace later this week. You can continue with this proposal, but for my experiment I have already audited all WP:FLs (you may have noticed the FL count went up by 8 and the log was corrected after my audit). I intend to go forward with my experiment unless another method is approved that makes my experiment obsolete. I do sort of view this proposal as an attempt to preempt my experiment which will go forward in all likelihood. I have already matched up nominators with all lists and know who is active and inactive and such and am ready to go forth with my own experiment in user space unless it becomes a problem.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:LOTD) 01:58, 12 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Voice comments on the talk page. (Feel free to expand a little bit. I just felt like adding the basics.)

Update: This is how I envision the Main Page to look like.
