This is quite good; as far as I can see, about the only thing standing between it and featured article status is the prose, which is often choppy and uses some non-idiomatic turns of phrase. I think it needs a good copyedit before you bring it to FAC. I've copyedited the "early years" section, and if you like what I've done there I'd be willing to do the rest of the article as well (though it will probably take me a while). Incidentally, what does "captaincy" mean in the context "...in what was at that time the captaincy of Minas Gerais"? Steve Smith (talk) 06:07, 29 January 2010 (UTC)

Thanks. I personally like what you have done, and would welcome your having a hand at the other sections. Some of the idiomatic phrasing is due to translation from Portuguese, and there are not always exact equivalents. A "captaincy" was a colonial administrative unit—sort of like the large colonial "proprietorship" grants (e.g., Pennsylvania) in England's American colonies. First of all, thank you for your reply, Steve. I and Astynax have put a large effort on writing this article and as he said, feel free to copy edit whatever you think it's necessary. About what means "captaincy", Astynax gave you the answer. But for short, it's nothing more than what was called the Brazilian states (or provinces as they were called when it was an Empire) during the colonial times. --Lecen (talk) 12:09, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
