The course covers issues related to gender and capitalist development. The first component covers the effects of colonialism on gender, then decolonization and the rise of the nation-state, along with formal development institutions. We continue by discussing key issues in the late 20th century related to gender and development such as agrarian transition, the role of women in global supply chains, migration, and population control. Finally, we'll explore how feminist principles and grassroots movements are challenging mainstream development practices and assumptions.
