We're planning to have the first AGM of the newly formed m:Wikimedia UK in Birmingham (possibly Birmingham University) at the beginning of May. Is there anyone active here who could collaborate with us on this? Thanks AndrewRT(Talk) 00:40, 18 January 2009 (UTC) (Secretary, Wikimedia UK)[reply]

Oooh I'll look. What would need doing for the AGM? Let me know what you need help with. I'm not much of a one for being able to promise to do something regularly, but I could happily help with something for the day. I'm also an alumnus of Brum Uni. That was some years ago now though lol so I doubt I could pull any strings. But I expect they'd be happy for us to meet there- probably for a suitable fee. :) You could try and find someone who's still there who could organize something. How many people are you expecting to attend? A current student might be able to wangle a room in the guild for us, you never know.Sticky Parkin 00:57, 18 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
University of Birmingham? But what about those of us who quit the place after 10 weeks :o( !!! Honestly, I have no idea which meet-up if any I'll be able to make, all I do know is that I'm expecting to be in the Midlands for a stretch soon-ish GTD 00:36, 20 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Acording to my colleagues at UBAS, if we can get one of the student societies to book it for us, we can have any room at the university for free! :-) Colds7ream (talk) 09:39, 20 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your answers. Our hope is that one of the student societies - possibly COGS, the computer science department society - could book it for us so we could get it free. Our resources are limited! We're expecting anywhere between 10 and 40 people to turn up so need a room that would handle that number. Please get in touch with me if you can help at all, particularly if you are at uni there or know anyone who is. Thanks! AndrewRT(Talk) 22:06, 21 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

suggested date[edit]

I would be interested in attending, but not on 21 February, when I have another meeting to go to. Peterkingiron (talk) 17:13, 18 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Any Saturday I think would be the best idea (preferably not the 14th, most of us will have plans I presume) - can't imagine it'd be bad if it were for some reason in March. ≈ The Haunted Angel 17:49, 18 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The date is completely flexible, except that last brum meet several people came from manchester, and mancs have a wiki meet around 9th march i think. So it would have to be before or after then, ideally with a gap of a few weeks. Maybe april or towards the end of march? Then those who are mad for it or live there can go to the mancs meet too. I'd like to come because I've been off the wiki recently and am planning to throw myself back into it. I'm on a gap year at the moment so I'm not really sure of my movements, however I'm much more likely to be around towards the end of Feb rather than the beginning. User:George The Dragon left a message on my talk page saying it's Villa vs. Chelsea on the 21st, so it'll be a bit loud in the w'spoons, and probably most other places. So another day is probably better. Sticky Parkin 10:26, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I would make a suggestion of setting the timing so it coincides with a huge beer festival in the Square Peg on Commercial Street or the Figure of Eight on Broad Street, but that'd get messy... GTD 16:34, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds like a laugh lol, is there one? I expect it will be at the Briar Rose too, they're normally on at all the wetherspoons pubs when they're on. They seem to have several ciders available all the time now, bottles of Westons etc. Sticky Parkin 17:42, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The beer fest isn't till in about october I think. So, when do you all fancy? Sticky Parkin 01:37, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Could I suggest The Anchor in Digbeth? Nice quiet pub, real ales, near to bus a coach stations. What more do you want? :)<http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/13/1337/Anchor_Inn/Digbeth> Tuxraider reloaded (talk) 03:26, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Better to be near to the train station I think. Majorly talk 10:55, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It's only about five mins walk from New Street, less from Moor St, and right outside the coach station. :) Tuxraider reloaded (talk) 00:22, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Also, the pubs closer to New Street station tend to be somewhat loud, conversation gets reduced to shouting over the hubbub. Tuxraider reloaded (talk) 19:33, 28 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
