UAA[edit]
Might want to note that the username was reported at least twice to WP:UAA - once by the namewatcher bot [1] and once by a user [2] ironically as an "offensive" username. I dismissed both of the reports and left the followup message on your experimental talk page after taking a peek. Note that the user who left the original message is not the same user who lodged the complaint at WP:UAA so there were at least 3 instances of concern over the username (including the bot) but none of which approached the user in what I feel is a constructive attempt to discuss the concern with what appeared to be a good-faith user. I personally have problems with the way WP:UAA is run with regards to new users and WP:BITE so I will leave it at that. Shereth 20:13, 10 November 2009 (UTC)

- Done. Will also add a disclosure to Fergus's user page. It's interesting how different the reaction to his username has been, versus my fully disclosed alternate account User:Hamlet, Prince of Trollmark. - I'm likely not the right guy to ask as I'm liable to start spouting off about over-eager enforcement of the username policy and the like, but in my opinion there is a massive lack of WP:AGF in the whole UAA arena and a "shoot first, ask questions later" policy appears to be the norm. "Troll" is not a username violation (the message left on the talkpage notwithstanding) but is merely a red flag; technically anyone can have "troll" in their username. That said, I have no doubt that established users are given some leeway with these things whereas new users are jumped on, rather harshly. Shereth 20:32, 10 November 2009 (UTC)
- Part of my intention was to edit in an entirely encyclopedic manner with an eyebrow-raising username. More often, what the site actually gets is editors who have an affiliation with some company and suppose the right thing to do is to incorporate the organizational name into their username (not realizing it's against our policy). Then they get hit with both COI and username, no matter how well intentioned they are. Obviously it wouldn't have been feasible to construct that type of username for NEWT so this experiment went with something more generic. Durova362 20:52, 10 November 2009 (UTC)
- You've hit the nail on the head there (well meaning editor, sadly misguided choice in username re: company name). It's a problem I've tried to confront and have repeatedly exhausted myself in doing so, so if anyone has any new ideas I'd love to hear them but I will restrain myself and not expound on the subject further :) Shereth 20:57, 10 November 2009 (UTC)
