Zama Regia (also called Zama Major or simply Zama) was, on October 19, 202 BC, a site of the Battle of Zama between Ancient Carthage and the Roman Republic. The Romans won the battle, thus ending the Second Punic War. It was the only defeat of Hannibal, who was defeated by Publius Cornelius Scipio. A Roman city was built there a few centuries after the battle.[1][2][3][4] Not to be confused with Zama Minor.
