Barry Schiff is an American pilot and author of numerous aviation related articles. He is a contributing editor to the aviation magazine AOPA. Schiff has received numerous aviation related awards and has been recognized for his many contributions to the aviation community and industry.[1][2]

Biography[edit]

Schiff is an accomplished pilot with a diverse range of certifications, and has earned recognition for his achievements in aviation. His accolades include five world speed records and honors such as the Congressional Commendation (1975), the Louis Bleriot Air Medal (France), Switzerland's Gold Proficiency Medal, an honorary doctorate from the Embry-Riddle School of Aeronautics (1980), and AOPA's Laurence P. Sharples Perpetual Award. Acknowledged for his contributions, Schiff has been inducted into the New Jersey Aviation Hall of Fame, the EAA/NAFI National Flight Instructor's Hall of Fame, and elected as an Elder Statesman of Aviation by the National Aeronautic Association.

In 1995, Schiff played a role in the Middle East peace process by leading a formation of 35 airplanes carrying 135 individuals from the United States, Israel, and Jordan in a mission known as Operation Peace Flight. With direct approval from Jordanian King Hussein and Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, Schiff made history as the first pilot permitted to fly between Jerusalem and Amman. Currently retired from Trans World Airlines, Schiff has transitioned to a career as a journalist and aviation expert witness.
