Page Protection?

Montanabw How does one go about getting page protection on an article? There have now been three attempts to add the same content to this page regarding Murray's marriage to the infobox. It's probably true, considering Paige has changed her name to Murray on her Twitter account and there is a valid news source for their engagement. However, these three attempts have not added content to the article but just the infobox and have not given any source. All of them have created accounts just for this content and they only have this one contribution, no other contributions are being made to Wikipedia. So blocking accounts without the basic rights should do it. Thought? dawnleelynn^(talk) 17:35, 17 October 2017 (UTC)

Go to WP:RPP and follow the directions there. You usually want semi-protection, which allows users with confirmed accounts to edit, but not anon IPs or brand-new accounts. Most likely, it's a fan or a family member trying to add it in. If Ty Murray has a verified Twitter or FB account and he verifies the marriage, you can probably use that as a source if stated as such... i.e. "On date X, Murray announced via Twitter/FB/Instagram/whatever that he did XYZ." then source to the specific post. Still best to find a better source, but I've noticed that Rodeo gossip is a lot harder to find than, say gossip about Golf or the NFL...  ;-) Montanabw^(talk) 00:27, 20 October 2017 (UTC)

Montanabw I looked all through that Wikipedia reference you gave me, and I understand about semi-protection. It's the option I wanted, I just didn't know what it was called. I guess I didn't wait long enough to see if a news site would come out with a story about Ty's wedding or that I just didn't find one that was out there soon enough. TMZ published one on October 16, and I just now found it in my search results tonight. So I added a short few sentences to his article and added the marriage in the infobox. But you are right, the gossip is definitely harder to find for rodeo. I have been searching for several days. Montanabw To show you how right you are about rodeo gossip, the headline of the news article about the marriage was focused on the famous singer, not Ty. "Jewel's Ex-Husband, Ty Murray, Gets Hitched Again in Country Waterfall Wedding" although it is the first line in the string of headings, I will at least give them credit for making it the smallest type. It's also the URL for the article. That's why the article isn't coming up easily in a search for Ty or Paige Murray. dawnleelynn^(talk) 16:17, 20 October 2017 (UTC)

Ty Murray overhaul

Uricarrillo94 Hi, I think I should move the discussion from Wesley Silcox to the relevant article. I have revised the PBR career highlight section according to the ideas I suggested in that article. Basically I removed what was there which was listing all of his outs from ProBullStats. Instead, I've just the ones that seemed notable. Take a look and see what you think. In fact, I give you leeway to make changes as you see fit. I used the ProBullStats website mainly. But I did actually a few on his profile on the PBR site as well. Uricarrillo94 Hey, I don't know if you saw the message above this one. I tried to move the conversation to this article's talk page since it's now about Murray. I'm putting a link back to Talk:Wesley Silcox so you can easily reference it though. What I was referring to about the changes to the PBR articles was that there is a troll who has been trying to make changes to the articles for over a year now. Changes to add the sponsor names and removes all of the historic tour names. That editor uses many IP names illegally and the use of sponsor names in the manner the editor adds them is also against policy. Just so you are aware of it, it's not you.

Regarding the changes to Murray's page, I had already added many outs to the article. I went in and added all of your suggestions except for the ones I don't have sources for. I made a list of the ones I need sources for to see if you have some, video sources welcome too as long as they are not copy violations. And please, feel free to go in there now and talk a look. Remove some that you might feel are not notable enough. Also do any rearranging of the content and sections you think might be better. I also am working on some sources for the other content you gave me on the events and finals he won, didn't attend or did, etc. Okay. Also, I checked out his two books from the library, so I am looking for some help from. "King of the Cowboys" and "The Mud, the Blood, and The Roughstock."

Hello, Dawn. Thanks for letting me know. It’s unfortunate that a troll is purposely messing around with pages. I hope he won’t be for long.

In regards to the outs that don’t have sources, the rides on Gunslinger, Erkle, Red Wolf (93 points) and Dillinger were previously on YouTube courtesy of rwillie22 (later known as RodeoLibrary101), but unfortunately when his channel was deleted due to multiple PRCA copyright complaints, those videos were deleted as well. Actually, he now runs a page on Facebook called “All Things Roughstock” where he shares videos of great roughstock outs from the PRCA and PBR. However, until recently he has stopped writing “PRCA” in the video description if the ride occurred for said organization, and only mentions the rodeo. I would imagine it being so he doesn’t receive more copyright complaints. He has shared the PBR ride on Gunslinger in Nashville 1994, but I don’t know if it’s possible to cite Facebook videos on Wikipedia. The ride is only available on YouTube via the PBR’s channel on a video titled “Donny Gay’s 1994 Season Highlights” where Gay shares his favorite rides from the 1994 PBR regular season. Murray’s ride on Gunslinger is the last. The only other uncited ride is the Baby Face ride, but it’s only available on YouTube via a channel called PBR BudLightCup on a video titled “Don Gay’s Favorite Rides from the 1996 PBR Tour”. The video in question is from a section from an old PBR season highlights VHS tape from Don Gay. In the section, Gay shows off his favorite rides from the PBR premier tour in 1996. Ty Murray’s ride on Baby Face is the first one to be shown.

In regards to not mentioning his ride on Gunslinger in the PBR in his book, perhaps Murray forgot about it or thought it wasn’t worth mentioning in his book. Uricarrillo94 (talk) 04:40, 1 June 2020 (UTC)

Uricarrillo94 Thanks for the fixes! Much appreciated. Regarding Gunslinger, I still have half of King of the Cowboys to read and we haven't gotten to the PBR yet. But I can see there isn't much about it in his first book. In his second book, which he wrote with reporter Kendra Santos, I am hoping there will be more as it was written later. Uricarrillo94 Thanks for all the fixes. I really should have done the proofreading sooner because it's a live article, not a draft I'm working on like Smooth Operator and Spotted Demon. By the way, you are welcome to take a look at the draft for Spotted Demon as well like you've done with Smooth Operator's draft. And I hope you can also check both at some point when they are ready to move to main space. I am also considering putting them on the front page for the "Did You Know..." feature. Hello, Dawn. I just edited what was necessary on the Spotted Demon draft. However, the top of the page says that he was born in 2009, but sections of the 2018 season highlights say he was ten years old then. Meaning he would have been born in 2008, rather than 2009. Hi Uricarrillo94 Thanks for the updates. I haven't had time to take a good look yet but I will. Just wanted to respond regarding Spotted Demon's birth year. Bull DOB information can be really hard to find online. I picked up the year of 2009 for Spotted Demon on the PBR Canada website on his profile page here: Spotted Demon profile. I haven't been able to find any other source for him to date. But he was not 10 years old the entire year of 2018, just after his real birthday, assuming 2009 is correct. I appreciate your attention to detail. I'll take a look this weekend; there were some sources I haven't used in his article yet as well trying to search newspapers.com. dawnleelynn^(talk) 03:03, 4 June 2020 (UTC)

Hi Uricarrillo94 Just a quick note to let you know I have not forgotten about this article. I am planning to do the changes we discussed above. I actually got a book from Thriftbooks real cheap but in excellent condition "King of the Cowboys" which I am hoping will help me get things right and find other sources as well.

P.S. Here's that quote on Justin McBride from Don Gay. I also bought another book real cheap from ThriftBooks, "Fried Twinkies, Buckle Bunnies & Bull Riders, etc." This is back in 2004.

"Gay moaned about how little the new riders know about the sport, adding, 'Justin McBride don't know if bulls sleep on the ground or roost in the trees.'"

Hello, Dawn. Thanks for letting me know. Adding quotes from these books would definitely enhance the articles. Interesting quote from Don Gay. He does have a unique sense of humor. It sounds like he was talking about McBride during his rookie PBR season on the premier series. This would have been 1999.
