August 2021[edit]

Information icon Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give a page a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into Frank Castle (Marvel Cinematic Universe). This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases for registered users, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. IronManCap (talk) 16:58, 31 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not introduce incorrect information into articles, as you did to Template:Sergio Leone. Your edits could be interpreted as vandalism and have been reverted. If you believe the information you added was correct, please cite references or sources or discuss the changes on the article's talk page before making them again. If you would like to experiment, use your sandbox. Thank you. MarnetteD|Talk 17:42, 31 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. You appear to be repeatedly reverting or undoing other editors' contributions at List of Community characters. Although this may seem necessary to protect your preferred version of a page, on Wikipedia this is known as "edit warring" and is usually seen as obstructing the normal editing process, as it often creates animosity between editors. Instead of reverting, please discuss the situation with the editor(s) involved and try to reach a consensus on the talk page.

If editors continue to revert to their preferred version they are likely to lose their editing privileges on that page. This isn't done to punish an editor, but to prevent the disruption caused by edit warring. In particular, editors should be aware of the three-revert rule, which says that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Edit warring on Wikipedia is not acceptable in any amount, and violating the three-revert rule is very likely to result in loss of your editing privileges. Thank you. SoWhy 19:28, 31 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@SoWhy: It is not an edit war. @MarnetteD: did not like an edit to Template:Sergio Leone but rollbacked all my edits instead of just that one by mistake, including the redirects to Daisy Johnson (Marvel Cinematic Universe) and the Community (TV series) at Abed Nadir. Dealmaces (talk) 19:39, 31 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@MarnetteD: Maybe mentioning that before rollback reverting everything I do might have been a good idea then? So that I knew which edit you were actually cross about? Dealmaces (talk) 00:15, 1 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

September 2021[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm RossButsy. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions to Christopher Lloyd and Jaeden Martell have been undone because they did not appear constructive. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you have any questions, you can ask for assistance at the help desk. Thanks. RossButsy (talk) 16:05, 3 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You definitely can't revert when you like on my talk page. RossButsy (talk) 16:26, 3 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give a page a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into Otto Octavius (film character). This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Wenwu (Marvel Cinematic Universe). This means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be although other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. Additionally, please stop making cut-and-paste moves, which is a form of disruptive editing. The Wenwu draft should be finalized in draftspsce before a page mover or admin publishes it, via WP:AFC or talkpage request. IronManCap (talk) 15:30, 5 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did at Characters of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Your edits appear to be disruptive and have been or will be reverted.

Please ensure you are familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, and please do not continue to make edits that appear disruptive. Continued disruptive editing may result in loss of editing privileges.
Please stop attempting to add the info regarding Katy Bashir. You have been told multiple times to stop, and most editors have already agreed that this information should not be included on Talk:Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
InfiniteNexus (talk) 05:20, 20 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@InfiniteNexus: That agreement was for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings alone as not being relevant to the article. Like how the Xu Shang-Chi section of the cast section does not mention he was based on Shang-Chi. Katy is reliably sourced as being based on Katy Bashir according to Variety, Screen Rant, and WP:VNT, and that should be included in Characters of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. To remove the "based on" credit would be a separate discussion. "Most" is yourself, Favre1fan93, Natg 19, and El Millo. Opposing you in support of Bashir is myself, IronManCap, 209.160.96.90, and ChannelSpider. 4 to 4. Dealmaces (talk) 11:11, 20 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It was established in that discussion that this information is too dubious, and that extends to this article. The cast listing on the Shang-Chi article links directly to this page, so obviously it does not need to mention what each character is based on. As for the WP:VNT reasoning that you keep clinging onto, it has already been explained how the dubiousness of the sources overrides that. InfiniteNexus (talk) 14:40, 20 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@InfiniteNexus: You have not sufficiently explained however how exactly these sources are "dubious", as what is being said to refute their validity does look like WP:OR and nothing else. Dealmaces (talk) 23:40, 20 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'm pretty sure Favre, El Millo, and Natg 19 have already addressed that in detail. A similar thing also happened with Spider-Man: No Way Home recently, in which a Variety article mentioned that Willem Dafoe would appear in the film, but it was agreed on the talk page not to cover this on the cast listing, character pages, or actor filmography pages. InfiniteNexus (talk) 23:49, 20 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
That is not total consensus however, only consensus of 4 amongst 8, which is 50% of the people discussing. Myself, IronManCap, 209.160.96.90, and ChannelSpider came to a different consensus above that consensus. Two different opposing sets of consensus between two different groups. I have read what they have said, and the only justification they gave is Katy Bashir not having a connection to Shang-Chi in the comics, which neither did the Mandarin of the Dweller-in-Darkness, contradicting the justification. The film is very different from the original Marvel Comics, although "based" on them. The articles sourced as reference have no speculation about Katy being based on Katy Bashir in them, it is simply stated, matter-of-fact, with no doubt in the author's writing, and then they move on to the rest of the article. Dealmaces (talk) 10:05, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Consensus ≠ Majority rule. Also, if you wish to continue this never-ending discussion, please do so on the Shang-Chi or Characters talk page, not here. InfiniteNexus (talk) 14:03, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@InfiniteNexus: While that is true, my point however still stands. Two opposing consensus have been made. Dealmaces (talk) 22:17, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution[edit]

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Man with No Name into Dollars Trilogy. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 12:18, 5 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I see you are still not adding the required attribution, as required under the terms of the CC-by-SA license. Please have a look at this edit summary as an example of how it is done. Copying without doing this is a violation of our licensing terms. Please leave a message on my talk page if you still don't understand what to do or why we have to do it. Thanks, — Diannaa (talk) 14:45, 2 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Please note[edit]

Please stop adding "based on personal life of X" to the infobox of film articles. The documentation for the field at Template:Infobox film specifically states "Do not use this field where the source material is ambiguous". Most (if not all) of the films take dramatic license with the historical record for these people. Also the links are redundant as the person is mentioned in the lede with a link to their articles. Your cooperation in this will be appreciated. MarnetteD|Talk 17:28, 10 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for September 11[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Isabelle (Animal Crossing), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Bethesda. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 05:56, 11 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Edit warring[edit]

Stop icon

Your recent editing history at Portrayal of James Bond in film shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See the bold, revert, discuss cycle for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you do not violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. - 2A00:23C7:2B86:9800:A8DB:6284:D2D7:F53D (talk) 13:38, 7 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Joelizards2006.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Joelizards2006.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Nthep (talk) 20:19, 7 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image File:OfficialMs.jpg[edit]

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:OfficialMs.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 17:26, 9 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

"Variant"[edit]

Hi there, as the term "variant" is currently specific to Loki and is in-universe WP:JARGON, please use "alternate versions" instead. InfiniteNexus (talk) 14:40, 20 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@InfiniteNexus: ...Yeah. In-universe to the MCU. Which these are character articles for. I do not see the problem. Dealmaces (talk) 15:50, 20 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Variant isn't a synonym of alternate version. Variant means something specific in Loki, which is someone that deviates from their "Sacred Timeline". There are infinite alternate versions of characters, not all of them are variants. —El Millo (talk) 15:52, 20 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@InfiniteNexus: ...And all the characters in What If...? meet the definition of variant. Dealmaces (talk) 15:55, 20 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
No, they don't. They should be pursued by the TVA if they were. If they're not called a variant, they're not variants. Otherwise is it WP:OR. —El Millo (talk) 16:30, 20 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@InfiniteNexus: ...What If...? is set after Loki and the recreation of the multiverse. The new TVA under Kang does not prune variants. Dealmaces (talk) 17:55, 20 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The point is that the term "variant" has only been used in the Loki series. Applying it to other MCU properties is original research. InfiniteNexus (talk) 18:33, 20 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Exactly, and not every alternate version is automatically a variant. —El Millo (talk) 01:42, 21 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
