Royal Victorian Chain - request for help

I'm trying to locate reliable sources for each recipient of the Royal Victorian Chain, for a little attempt at an improvement to List of recipients of the Royal Victorian Chain that I'm working on at the moment in my sandbox. The London Gazette doesn't have a lot of the early awards, or all the awards to foreign heads of state. I have (at the moment, anyway) access to a searchable full-text database of The Times up to 1985, but that's fairly hit-and-miss too. Not all awards were mentioned in the Court Circular. A lot of the sites that turn up using Google are wikimirrors and I'm not sure about the reliability of some of the others. These are the ones I'm stuck on - any ideas where I might look next?

Oh, and if anyone has better sources for the award of the Chain to Edward VIII of the United Kingdom, George VI of the United Kingdom, Abdullah of Saudi Arabia and Olav V of Norway, I'd love to hear about them! Thanks for any assistance or suggestions. BencherliteTalk 00:07, 7 January 2008

This is probably too late but an excellent book is Royal Orders by Hugo Vickers it is available on the internet and at some libraries. It contains a chapter on the award, containing details on recipients as well as a series of sections on the awards to many members of the royal family, those with the RV Chain will have the year mentioned as well. Orders and medals of Socialist Yugoslavia

Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia had orders, medals and a commemorative medal that I placed at commons:Category:Gallery of the Yugoslavian decorations.

Order of Ormus

Please, look here Order of Ormus. I think, that is pure joke/hoax, without any foundation. Author of article give link to one article about Vatican secret archives, where is nothing about this "order" and as reference book cite Boulton´s Knights of crown, where is nothing about this. Of course nothing about this order is in Burke Word orders, van Duren Orders or any other book. Thus, I nominated for deletion. Yopie 17:11, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

The Mosleys

Hi. Tommy turrell and I were in the middle of trying to get Max Mosley through the Featured Article procedure when the current news flap blew up. That's nixed any chance of featured status for now, but has meant a lot more people are reading and commenting on the article. Some of them have commented on the forms of address used for Mosley's parents, Oswald Mosley and Diana Mitford.

Originally we had 'Sir Oswald' (he was a baronet) and 'Lady Diana'. Since then we have had various suggestions that after her marriage to Sir Oswald, Diana Mitford should have been referred to as Lady Mosley and before that as 'The Honourable Diana Mitford', since her father was Baron Redesdale.

This is all rather out of my sphere of knowledge - can anyone advise? Cheers. 4u1e (talk) 16:31, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

Caribbean/West Indies

I was looking at the article on Sir Allen Stanford, and thought where would one categorise his own knighthood? Trying to take the Antigan cricketer Sir Viv Richards as an example, I found that someone had added a presently red box category for Knights of the West Indies of the British Empire. Trying to find a logical example elsewhere, I notice many of the other great West Indies cricketers are presently under the United Kingdom country level honour category of Knight Bachelor - which seems wrong, as they are citizens of other independent countries. I suggest I take a model of those for Australian or New Zealand former British honours at a West Indies level - there are probably not enough articles in the sub-country categories to warrant a category, although this shouldn't preclude them. I think you really need to check which list they were on. I haven't managed to track down the Gazette for Sir Viv (all the 1999 ones seem to have gone walkabout from the website), but Garfield Sobers for instance was actually nominated by the British Government on the Diplomatic and Overseas list, as Barbados has stopped making nominations for knighthoods, causing some unease to the FCO. Stanford seems to have been appointed to a new Order, rather than to the Order of the British Empire, or one of the other orders originating from the UK. I have been working on upgrading this template. The biggest bug is that ribbons with devices on them will always start a new line. (For discussion, see the talk page.) However I was looking for any other input. Are there devices you would like to see added? Are there any major spacing issues? (This is an issue with the current template... part of the problem is that oak leaves are asymmetrical and stars are symmetrical. Preference for photos or illustrations?

Is there a consensus preference for photos or illustrations? Should both be included (e.g., put the illustration in a "show/hide" part of the infobox)? It's pretty easy to find government images by doing a Google image search for, e.g., legion of merit site:mil. Personally, I would like to see a photo of the decoration (obverse) for the main image, then at least for US decorations, image2 superceded by separate obverse, reverse, and ribbon fields, which would be illustrations. – flamurai (t) 01:59, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

Image of the U.S. Air Force Good Conduct Medal used in a Wikipedia award

Recently I discovered an image of the U.S. Air Force Good Conduct Medal used in a custom Wikipedia award on the page User:BetacommandBot. I don't think it is an appropriate use of the image, and it may even be against U.S. law. Please see the conversation on the issue at Wikipedia:Editor_assistance/Requests#Image:Air_Force_Good_Conduct_Medal_ribbon.png. Image Deletion

Hello all...

The image on this page, Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Medal is currently nominated for deletion due to copyright issues -- the discussion is here. I have been convinced of the need for deletion, I also wanted to make sure that appropriate action is taken to replace the image with a properly allowed one. Category help

Just created a new category Category:Order of the Crown (Belgium) recipients to match other Belgian awards like Category:Order of Léopold recipients but I have noticed that a lot of the other cats are Receipents of Foo rather than Foo recipients has the project a preference. Form what I can see, most of the categories have the pattern "Recipients of Foo" (eg: Category:Recipients of the Distinguished Service Cross (Australia), Category:United States military honor recipients). This is sometimes further refined into the different grades of the Order (eg: Category:Order of St Michael and St George). So, in answer to your first question, I would suggest that "Recipients of Foo" would be the way to go. PalawanOz (talk) 00:59, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

I have noticed on other WikiProject they have created awards for it's members that give outstanding contributions towards the groups projects. Those WikiProject Orders, Decorations, and Medals have any plan or desire to do so? If yes, I was extremely bored at work and came up with this design.
