During the 1948–49 English football season, Queens Park Rangers competed in the Football League Second Division and finished in thirteenth place. On 15 December 1948, Ivor Powell commanded a £17,500 transfer fee when he moved to Aston Villa. This was a record for a half back and for both the buying and selling clubs
