Lunch Actually is a Singapore-based dating and matchmaking service founded in 2004 by Violet Lim and Jamie Lee.[1][2][3] The company specializes in connecting busy professionals through lunch dates to help establish connections.[4][5][6][7] Lunch Actually operates in Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Taiwan, and Thailand.[8][9]

History

[edit]

Lunch Actually was established in 2004 by Violet Lim and Jamie Lee.[10][11] The concept of arranging lunch dates for singles was inspired by Lim's observations during a trip to Japan.[1] Since its inception, Lunch Actually has arranged over 160,000 first dates and formed more than 3,500 couples.

In 2014, Lunch Actually acquired Love Out Loud Asia (LOLA), a mobile dating app.[12][13][14] In 2015, the company purchased the Thai dating company MeetNLunch.[15][16] This was followed by the acquisition of the Indonesian dating platform Setipe in 2016.[17][18][19] The same year, Lunch Actually formed a joint venture with Diverse Co. in Japan.[10][20]

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Lunch Actually introduced virtual dating services, including virtual consultations and webinars, to meet the growing demand for online interactions.[21][22]

In 2022, the company acquired Taiwan's dating brand Aimm.[23]

The company has developed digital platforms like Eteract, an online speed dating portal,[24] and LunchClick, a mobile dating app.[25][2][26]
