This works as-presumably-intended if the term does appear in the glossary and serves as its own ''id'' there. For example,

Perhaps not perfect typesetting, but certainly good enough! (I've changed the section title to something more descriptive, in case anyone else ever has the same query.) :::: The leading space that was unwanted (we agree) was specified in the template code by a space following the crucial pipe. I revised the template by deleting that one character and the display no longer includes a leading space.

P.S. For braces, <code><nowiki>{{gcb|deal|<nowiki>{</nowiki>deal<nowiki>}</nowiki>}}</nowiki></code> 
: --if you know what I mean, which is that the pair of braces immediately preceding and following 'deal' are separately enclosed within nowiki–/nowiki tags (which differs from what you see, interpreting the first /nowiki tag as closing the first nowiki tag, if you know what I mean)--
